Now, I know, you are going to think this is too good to be true but chocolate may be good for your heart. That's because it contains significant amounts of phenol, a chemical (also present in red wine) that reduces the risk of heart disease by preventing the formation of plaques in coronary arteries. Forty-five grams of milk chocolate (or 2 tbsp of cocoa) has as much phenol as 158 ml of red wine.
Chocolate is a feel-good food because it causes or increases the release of endorphins, natural opiates in the brain that reduce pain. These are the same chemicals that are released during exercise and create the "runner's high." Also, chocolate boosts levels of serotonin, another natural brain chemical, which alleviates depression.
