Have you ever watched a film at the cinemas where the audience applauded at the end?
It happened to me on two occasions: Titanic and Rush Hour.
I didn't applaud though.

Anyone?

I watched people applaud at the cinema several times, but it is strange for me, because there are no real people on stage who could hear it.

Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets
remember the ending scene with all the students (except for Malfoy's gang) applaused for Hagrid? A couple of teens actually joined in with the clappings and then, a lot joined in. It was pretty loud, along with the movie sound effect in a cinema which seated 300 :???:

I guess they either applaused for the fun of it or for the respect...(respect?!?!)

I don't know why they clapped... i never questioned it just joined in :razz:

I guess its just to show their appreciation for the movie, even though chances are the people who actually made the movie would never hear it...

the only times i can remember people clapping is all three LotR movies, can't think of any other time

i herd claping at the end of the second LOTR movie my friends were just cracking up over the impressions i was doing over the funny parts in the movie :grin:

Hey man, at the end of ROTK, I clapped. I was overwhelmed with joy and sorrow at the same time...*sniffle*
I only clap at the ends of movies if I feel moved, ya know? Like Love Actually, I clapped at the end of that....
I think I get moved really often... :-?

what is even more strange to me is people applauding the pilot in a plane when it has just landed...you could also applaud the bus driver when he stops at your station :lol:

bricolli, i agree with you. it is very strange because the actors are not there. if it were a play or a concert, i'd applaud but not for a movie.

I've been to a few movies when people applauded when the movie began.

In Brazil....there is applauding after every good Movie!!! That would be LOTR II and III, Pirites of the Carribean, and the movie i saw today, The last samuri!

No one ever applauds here (in Slovakia). Isn't it a bit weird? Like there're no 'real' actors, they can't hear people applauding them, not like in a theatre. But applauding in a plane's funny. Happy to be back on earth, guess :grin:

We usually clap at the end of a movie if it's good.
I know they can't hear you - but it's the same for cheering on a hockey team when you're watching it on tv. They can't hear you yell. "SHOOT! SCORRRESSS!!!!" But we do it anyways

On each premier of Lotr there was applauding,during and in the end of the movie(and also in the kissing scenes)
