HBO TV shows

Postby Lizzy Bennet » Saturday 7 June 2003 11:33:09pm

I'm not sure anyone has posted about these, so I thought I'd give it a go! Two of my favorite shows to watch are "s*x and the City" with Sarah Jessica Parker and "Six Feet Under" which features an undertaker's family!

As both of these shows are on HBO, they can be a little more 'daring' and 'racy' than most shows, but I really like the writing on both. :) The SATC ("s*x and the City") girls have really honest conversations about men that really make me chuckle! "Six Feet Under" is simply moving and humorous . . . it's edgy, but to me, that's what makes it watchable . . . it isn't just another recycled TV programme.

Am I the only one on this website who likes these two shows? I just watched the season finale of SFU ("Six Feet Under") and SATC returns to HBO the day after the 5th Harry Potter book comes out . . . I can't wait!

Oh goodness, I'm so incredibly addicted to SFU! It's one of the few really inttelligently written show on TV. Meh, every Sunday night I could be found in comfy pyjamas with my television remote and SFU. Will now be in intense withdrawl until it returns...

Oh yes, and Lisa better be die. Bloody hate her.

I can barely stand to watch those lame shows about yuppies with on and off again job all packed into a tiny apartment always saying witty garbage. I'd hate to see what it would be like to watch an HBO version of that. I've heard good things about SFU but never saw it. If I can't see it on basic I won't see it at all. I learned my lesson with a certain Adventures in Narnia dvd that was about four hours long and seemed to only bring out the Slytherin in me hoping the hero's of the tale would meet their sticky end.

I can't say I particularly think SATC is a 'yuppy' show at all . . . certainly, I think it's much funnier and much better written than any of the 'reality shows' on TV at the moment, but then, that's my opinion. :)

I enjoy SATC for the friendships as well as the kinds of topics about relationships they bring up. A lot of the HBO shows--unlike a good deal of the fluff on TV at the moment--can and do push the envelope. That alone makes them more interesting to watch to me . . . every so often, I enjoy "The Sopranos" as well. Hey, if nothing else, watching shows with no commercials is GREAT! hehehehe

Relating to HBO, but not a TV show, the actress who plays "Professor McGonagall" in the HP movies was recently in a movie made for TV on HBO a few weekends ago called, "My House in Umbria." I've not watched my recording of it yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

McGonnagle has been in tons. I laugh to think she was once a younger woman in The Clash of the Titans. She played a pretty good role in The Secret Garden also. I think the most recent thing she's done as far as movies go may have been The Ya Ya Sisterhood. It's funny to see your favorite HP stars out of character in other films. Richard Harris to say the least has been a true fascination for me. I loved him The Count of Monte Cristo as well as Gladiator. It was a shame when he past away. Then theres Hagrod, oh that Hagrid. Ever seen Nun's On The Run or The Pope Must Diet (formely known as The Pope Must Die which was changed due to Vatican influence), and of course John Cleese as the crazy Inspector Cleuso (spelling*)of the Pink Panther fame. I'll laugh when I see Harry, Ron, or Hermione in something other then HP.

well, I will admi that I love SATC!!! We got the season finale over here a few weeks age (season 5 I think) so it's off again now, much to my dissapointment! I think that it's funny, and rather original, inthe sense that it's unlike other shows on, and the clothes are generally pretty damn cool! also, I'd sell quite a large portion of my soul for Carrie Bradshaw's shoes!!! *in my size of course!!!*

Oh, I saw 'My House in Umbria!' It was v. well done. Just a real high quality movie. Maggie Smith was fantastic, as was Chris Cooper. But what I enjoyed the most was the language. It was just so refined and beautiful. I hope you enjoy watching it!
