Welcome to the newly opened Magical Games area. To start the area off with a flourish, Broomsticks And Owls' latest project, top-secret up until now, is now unleashed...

For Wizards and Witches, and all members in general here at BaO, the new Wizard Chess club is now open!

At the moment the system doesn't directly have a link between link your BaO forum username and the Chess system itself, so you'll need to go through the quick signing-up process using the New User link.

I'll be interested in any thoughts you may have. It may be nice to somehow arrange some kind of friendly competitiveness between the Houses for House Points (maybe using the ratings system in some way) but I haven't quite figured out exactly the best way to do this yet.

Have fun and remember the words of a wise muggle - it's not the winning that matters but the taking-part.

That is sooooo cool, I haven't played chess in years....used to play it on yahoo games all the time but the uni server blocked that so no chess for the kimmy...

I suspect I'll have forgotten how to play again now although I was never much good anyway.

How does it work first off...do you have to both be online at the same time or can you make moves whenever you are online?

Because if we have to be online at the same time then monday and tuesday isn't a good time but I can play all day wednesday....I shall be on buses all day today.

You don't need to be online at the same time as your opponent. The system will save your opponent's move as soon as it's made, then when you next sign on to the Wizard Chess Club you can make your next move (regardless of whether your opponent is on at that time).

And I must say it's a lot better that way, being able to close it and come back whenever you wish to make a move...
