Irony about Snape and Potions

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

Irony about Snape and Potions

Postby DumbledoreistheMaster » Tuesday 19 July 2005 1:20:43am

Did anyone else seem to think how ironic and funny it was that Harry could not learn anything in Potions from Snape and made a point of saying so himself. But then it turns out that he did learn basically everything from Snape when he didn't realize it. And I mean some of it was just copying stuff from the book but he remembered stuff too like the antidote to poison I think its funny how he learned more from Snape when he didn't know it was him.

Oh, that was definitely JKR's point in giving Harry the HBP's book. The idea is this: Harry's learning depends upon the circumstances in which he is learning. He could fight off a hundred Dementors because he learned to do so from a friend, Lupin. Same thing w/ accio in the first task, because he learned it w/ friends. Also, the whole DA thing proved this, because he was teaching and people were learning better than ever. there are more example's I'm sure. I know that 7 will have Harry mastering Occlumency and silent spells, because he will not be learning from Snape.
It has happened before....

exactly cos, sometimes i could kick harry for not just listening to snape. despite his nastiness he knows what he's talking about and harry could really learn from him. buut i do think that, that was definitly the purpose of the book. so ironic. also i'll kick harry if next year he refuses to use it and i know he will. now he knows it's snape, he will absorb nothing more of value from that book. that aspect of harry bugs me, sometimes he's so stubborn he cuts off his nose to spite his face.

also HP has been caught up worrying bout Snape every year and has been picked on! this year he hasnt had that! A bit like Nev in HP3 where he confronts the boggot and does it fine.

yeah, i've been through that age, i know how it goes. BUT harry isn't a typical 17 year old. a typical 17 year ols doesn't have to save the world from the greatest evil wizard the wordl has ever seen so you would expect a bit more sucking up of the pride and a bit more maturity!!!

probably less so as he has to be all mature when confronting these dangerous things. he probably likes to play up these problems to help him not have to think bout having to kill the most evil wizard that ever lived

yes, a bit of humour is necessary to relieve himself of the burden that would probably drive him a bit insane if he didn't play it up a bit. but i think i bit of sensibility in putting the common good above his own grudges would be good.

I agree but i dont think until this year he would think that DD would be gone so he probably didnt think of his studies as important as they obviously are now

yup, i bet he would have taken his studies a bit more seriously if he'd known all this was gonna happen. i think next year he'll train himself, focusing on DADA and will become much more powerful. he already has the power just needs to refine it. i mean his shield in DADA with snape was so powerful it knocked snape over desks. now he just needs to learn to have the same power silently, and i think he'll be a match for VD, but until then he hasn't a hope.

but because of there wands i think it may come down to the love aspect that is hinted throughout the book! Or at least play an important role which brings us right back to him and GINNY!!

probebly also important is that he learns to close his mind?

all the power in the world ain't gonna help him if he can't even finish a spell, as snape so clearly demonstrates

love and friendship is important to, do you honestly believe that hp is able to find the remaining horcruxes by himself?

I think that is where the mysterious RAB will come in handy. Who knows how many horcruxes he has destroyed. Maybe only Nagini and Voldemort are left.

yeah that is very good point, but what happens if he did die after getting the locket??
it means harry has to find 4, 1 of which is not whereits sposed to be, which means it could be somewhere not connected with LV which could make it harder to find.
