Arabella Figg

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

What do you guys think of Mrs. Figg? Did anybody expect her to be a Squib?

Once I thought about it, it makes sense. I'm curious to go back and re-read the other books to see if there's any clue at all that she's from the magic community.... besides in book 4 at the end when her name is mentioned "Arabella Figg" and i guess again when the borrowed the tents there was some clues... (but then again, i'm going to have to go back and read it again)

Yeah, tehre were come clues that she was part of the wizard world, but it was rather a shock when I read she was a squib, I really like that nobody expected it.

What I don't get is how DD and the others met her in the beginning. Afterall, if she were a squib before, when Voldie was still in power, Harry Wouldn't have been living with the Dursleys'. So how did she become one of the 'old gang'?

Maybe because of her husband? Mr Figg might have died in the First War and was part of the Order... so Mrs Figg was involved too? Just a theory anyway...

I was disappointed in Mrs. Figgs role in the book. With her name being snuck into the end of the forth book and all the speculation about her it was weird the way she was only in the beginning of the book and not even mentioned later at all. What I don't get is what her use was since she can't do magic so won't be able to help Harry if he gets in danger.

I don't think Figg was supposed to be the sole protector, that was Fletcher's job. I think she was just there to keep an eye out for him because she wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb because of her muggleness and she could stay in contact with the wizard world because of her wizardness...i think she was there more from the begining of Harry's stay at the Dursley's and then security was added when the threat became strong after GoF.

I liked that Mrs Figg was a squib, but I do wish that she had been part of the OotP...I suppose that we dont' know for sure taht she wasnt' going to some of the meetings, but it is unlikely...

Also, her husbane (if there was one) coudlnt' have been part of the old order, otherwise he woudl have been in Moody's photo...

I woudl say that DD knew about her because he checks things out much more thoroughtly than other do. ie, the wizarding world woud have known that one or both of her partnts were magical, and instread of waiting for the children with Magical powers to be found, maybe DD looked for people with magical powers having childern... and int hat way, woud have picked up Mrs Figg as a squib!

Anyways... I've forgotten my point yet again!
Have fun! ;)

At the end of the 4th book I was absolutely sure that Figgy was going to be the next DADA teacher, boy was I wrong. I'm actually surprised that nobody picked up that she was the Mrs. Figg from next door. Granted this is a very difficult point to pick up, but so far on these forums I've seen people pick up so many obscure clues and fit them together.

Arabella Figg was known to be a part of the "old crowd" - but since she's a squib, she became very useful. She could keep an eye on him on Privot Drive without the ministry knowing about it. Aslo why she couldn't protect him, and was so furious Mundungus left his bodyguard position.

Think of it - a wizard or witch near Harry would have been suspected from the start and not believed. But a squib is different. she did it for the right reasons. Harry may have a better summer having tea with her and telling the Dursley's how miserable it was.
