Even if Fudge's intentions are good, which they probably still are, his incompetence and corruptibility set him up as the perfect character to turn evil. Voldemort is assuredly going to recognise this in him, if he hasn't already, and use it to his benefit. Fudge is already trustworthy of the Dementors, which we know are Voldemort's most loyal servants, and allows them to keep watch over Azkaban, in spite of all the evil that they've done.

I don't think he's an evil person, but I believe he can be easily blended by the promise of power...Willow and me once came up with the thought that Fudge could have been the one Voldie refers to as "the one who has left me forever" This would at least explain why he didn't want to believe that Voldie had returned...fear! However, I think the 'powerhungry follower who realized he was wrong'-theory fits better for him than for Snape.

I like it Siana... maybe he was a low ranking DE though, and he would still be very scared for betraying Voldie! And maybe that was why he freaked so much when Snape showed him the dark mark?

It certainly fits, doesn't it?

Holly always agrees with you (do not get bad at me, neither of you)

I just don't think that the ministry of magic is a DE, I mean Snape would know it for example, no?

that Holly always agrees with me is not true, Neo! There are topics on which you agree with Holly, some on which we two agree and sometimes we don't find a consens at all. That's why I love this forum!

What tells you that Snape doesn't know? He just doesn't mention it in Harry's presence...after all, if maybe Fudge was the DE that has left forever, there would arise the question where Snape was during the DE meeting in book 4...

Okie,s, well, maybe Fidge wasn't a DE, but a big spy for Voldie, and Voldie didnt' tell anyone about it... Like he didnt't ell his DE's about Peter... *because then Snape would know that Sirius was innicent, wouldnt' he?*

So maybe that's how Fidge knew what the dark mark was (if he did) and was fridgtened of it and what it represented!

What thinks??

PS, and yeah Neo, Mistress Siana and I dont' always agree! :D We're all const agreeing and dis-agreeing with eachother...
except maybe you and I Neo... we rarely agree!!!
(though it does happen very occasionally!!!)

I know you not always agree (but you agree more often between you than with me, specially Holly)

Ok, if Snape is a bad guy, then if he knows that Fudge is a DE it is okay; but if he is a good one (which is most surely) then why he doesn't say anything?; and we are not sure Snape didn't know about Peter.

For one, it's impossible to say that Snape is fully a 'bad' guy. I don't think we can use the fact that he was previously a Death Eater to throw him in the 'evil' category. Moreover, like was said before, perhaps Snape really doesn't know. When you think about it, he became Minister in approximately 1981 (after Crouch lost his job,) which is the year Voldemort was defeated, so Snape would have already been out of the Death Eater's by then (Dumbledore said that Snape left previous to the defeat.) And since Snape graduated Hogwarts in 1978 (JK said in an interview that he was 35,) then theres v. little time in there for there to be much goings-on between Snape and Fudge.
And, if Snape did in fact know that Fudge was a Death Eater, than perhaps he has told Dumbledore and Harry doesn't know of it. I mean, Dumbledore has never seemed completely trusting of Fudge, anyway.
Meh, am not quite sure that that served much of a purpose other than to completely confuse everyone.

You said an important thing...in this case, all we know is what people are willing to tell a 14 year old boy, and even DD doesn't tell him everything.

I mean, Dumbledore has never seemed completely trusting of Fudge, anyway.

I had the same impression. Remember when DD tells Fudge to remember they're on the same side, at least as long as Fudge has the intention to defeat Voldie...am I the only one who thinks that way or was there a hint of menace in the way dd said that?

Oh, it was most definitely a menacing thing to say. Especially from a guy like Dumbledore. He normally seems like such a calm and almost-bumbling man, but it's amazing how much power he's able to exhibit when he needs to. I think that this is especially evident in all of his dealing with Fudge.
