Malfoy matters

Who do you like best and who could you definately live without? Will there be romance in the air for any of them and who will end up with who?

I liked the chess-metaphor  though I don't think Narcissa is equally powerful to Voldie. His only rival is Harry, hello!
Maybe will she really stay in the background and never show up  but just because of her mistery I want her to show up and solve some questions ... JKR has to make her role clear in next 2 books so Narcissa may have more lines ...

I think I heard somewhere that Narcissa will make more appearances since Lucius is indesposed.

OK we all know how JKR picks names for her characters that mean something close to their personalities. Here's the background on Narcissa, I think. I took mythology last semester and I'm a little rusty but here goes: When Hades went to kidnap Persephone to be his wife, Persephone was picking flowers in a field. Hades makes this really pretty flower poke out of the ground right in front of Persephone. Persephone picks it and when she does the ground caves in or something and Hades comes and grabs her and takes her to the underworld. The flower Hades makes Persephone pick was called the Narcissus flower. So the Narcissus flower was the trick Hades used to get Persephone. Anyone know how that could paralell to HP?

I don't know how it parallels. I had never heard that Hades made Persephone pick a Narsissa before carrying her away. The story of Narsissa that I've heard is how Narsissa became a flower.
Narsissa was a very handsome man and was anamored by a water nymph. He rejected her so she made him look into the stream. There he saw his reflection and fell in love with it. He never left the stream but died there gazing at his own face. The next spring the flower sprung up where he had layed and was named Narsissa. :P

Persephone & Hades

Postby Reverie Revenge » Sunday 2 May 2004 5:43:51pm

Evil Wizard Petting Zoo, I've never heard about Persephone & Hades myth before, though I know Greek mythology well. :???: Where did you find it? I like the legend :-) , though it's another one telling how a man can win a woman for eternity with a simple trick  How come it does work in reality, I wonder?!?! Not for me, anyway :evil grin:

Parallels? Lucius might get Narcissa because of his powers at the Ministry, his wealth (though Narcissa comes from a wealthy family too), his looks, and his evil :evil grin: But it might have been a pre-arranged marriage as well, you know the good old aristocrats, who always know what is the best for their children

Or maybe Narcissa Malfoy is not like the Persephone, but the bait, set up for someone else ... Maybe it has to do sth. with Kreacher betraying useful information to Narcissa. So now everyone thinks she's the evil one and everyone from the good side focuses on her but in fact the real Voldie's plans don't involve Narcissa anymore, her role might be finished.
In another post I said Narcissa's role might be fatal, I know  but she is soooooo mysterious ... :D
