I'm waiting to see someone smart enough to work the werewolf thing till they can have their human intelligence in a big wolf's body
The way I've always thought about it, is that they do have their human intelligence in a wolf body... until they smell a human. Then they go insane and try to bite/destroy the human. Wolfsbane makes them keep their human mind even when they do smell humans. At least that's how I look at it.
Animagus get to keep thier human minds and Snape once asked the DADA class what the difference was between a werewolf and an animagus. The question implies that the two are similar in nature.
Also, the entire point of the Marauders becoming animagus was so that they could have adventures with Lupin during the full moon -and restrain him if necessary.
