Let's talk about... Harry

I like Harry book 6. His loyalty to DD, especially at the end with the MoM, was touching.

Yeah, he is loyal to DD, despite having him ignore him (albeit with good reason) not telling him what he aught to know, being aloof etc.

yeah harry's and DD's raltionship was really touching. the way DD was moved to tears almost when harry said he was "dumbledore's man through and through" and the way when they were leaving the cave DD said he wasn't worried because he was with harry. i really loved their relationship. which was another thing i hated about book 5, i didn't like the rift between them in book 5 and this was exactly what i wanted to see happening between harry and DD in book 6 after the distance of book 5.

I know Harry was a bit over the top in book 5 but if i had seen someone die (Cedric) then the closest thing you have to a parent dies (Sirrius) i would be pretty upset and i guess people react in different ways. But i liked at the end of the book when offered to help Luna find her stuff and think that he has been the same since then - he realised that everyone has problems - even though they arent as bad as his!

I think he was pretty likeable in this book alright. It's a toss-up for me between books 4 and 6 as to the best Harry.

i refused to sympathize with harry in book 5 because he a) went out cho chang and
b) he was just a whinny little bratt whose temper landed him into a lot of trouble

I'd like to see you be a better person after going through what he went through (one of the signs of mourning - anger/ depression) and leave Cho alone. She's not a bad person, and I'm impressed that she stood up or her friend. What would it say if she abandoned Marietta for Harry?

Sorry about the poll guys, I was sure that I had Book 6 as a choice,

I've added book 6 now as an option for all who wish to vote for the Half-Blood Prince.

Personally I preferred the Harry/Dumbledore relationship in book 6 but I did too like Harry in Book 5 so I haven't decided on which to vote for yet. Yes, Harry was angry at the world but sometimes the world deserves that to some degree anyway. He had seen the sudden and merciless death of Cedric only months earlier, and was struggling to cope with the identity that had been thrown upon him whilst other students were able to be normal and enjoy their youth and the very special times at Hogwarts. It's not exactly the situation where Harry would be likely to be flying around on his broomstick with feelings of unbridled freedom and happiness.

I never liked Harry much in the first four books, I'm not too sure why (maybe because he bored me?)

In book 5, my disinterest turned to sheer hate and I wanted nothing more than for him to bite it in the end of the series.

The sixth book made me change my mind about that last part. I loved him in it. He wasn't my favorite character or anything(Ginny was my favorite in HBP, hands down), but I certainly don't want him to be stricken with anymore tragedy. Yeah, he's now in my group of loved characters.

I think the best thing that ever happened to happen to Harry was losing Sirius. It changed him profoundly and I think in all good ways. It's tough for me to say/think this because Sirius is my all time favorite character from all of the books (Ginny is a close second).

I just wish he'd lose his hero complex. It's obnoxious. His "saving people thing" is what got Sirius killed, but he didn't learn from it. Now he's pushing Ginny away because it's what he thinks is best, but he's an idiot for thinking it. The safest place for Ginny is at Harry's side, that way he can always protect her, because no matter what, she's going to be a target. (Everyone knows that Harry is closer to the Weasley's than anyone else even if they don't know that Harry and Ginny's bond goes beyond sibling-like, she's already been targeted by the Death Eaters and escaped, and she is partially responsible for the destruction of one of Voldy's horcruxes/horcruxi?.)
