On the barrowdowns, a LOTR forum I go to, they had a character essay contest where people had to write a page-long essay about a character . . .

I thought it would be interesting to have a contest like that here. If you want, I can dig up the guidelines for that contest and post it here.

I think it's a brilliant idea. We could possibly even make it so that entrants can earn house points. Just an idea, but maybe we could do it where entries from a member of one particular house can be voted upon by the other three houses (maybe in a vote in each house's common room), and the votes get aggregated or averaged together or something.

Er, it's probably not the correct usage of the word but kind of a way of saying the votes can be collected together, and some way of calculating the winner (or house points awarded) from the overall votes could be done. The way this would be done would depend on how the votes were cast. For example in each house there could be a way of voting for the three other houses. This vote could be marks out of 10 (or 100) for each other house maybe, or could simply be a vote for which of the three other houses did the best writing.
