According to the coin toss Ravenclaw is For the Law and Gryffindor is against.
So Ravenclaw should be the first to present opening arguments.

gotcha! i guess i'll present the opening argument.

A simple walk through a public place. A park, or even a restuarant. A perfect day, until...a blast of smoke from a cigarette or cigar is blown in your face! You shake it off, not knowing the effects of that one blow. Second-hand smoke is harmful, just as first-hand is. For instance, my grandpa died of lung cancer in January because of smoking. He smoked in public places. Had he not been able to, perhaps the fact would have been that he would have been able to fight the cancer better, or that that little bit he didn't smoke would have staved off the cancer for good. And now, because of the fact that smoking has ruined him, he will not be able to see my older sister graduate tomorrow. In fact, he won't see any of his grandchildren graduate. Ever. All because of the fact of smoking.

Some people want to ban smoking in public places. I would love to ban it altogether, as it is ripping families apart! This addictive habit is digusting, foul, and sickening addiction that can ruin your health, and everyone else's around you. So, that is why I am for the anti-smoking law.

I was searching through forums and I found this one! I checked the dates and they are pretty far back. I would like to know if I can still go into this though? If this debate thing is cancelled then we can still bring it back to life!!!...As soon as I get sorted I would love to be a member of this club!!

I think the first topic should be the Schindler-Schiavo case. I suggest that all of you read up on the cse first before putting you responses in. I shall start i suppose. ( in next post )

I believe that Terry should live until we are ABSOLUTELY sure that she cannot be cured or helped to a state in which she can be understood, in which case we should use a less barbaric form of killing her(for lack of better words). I do not think that the politicians should have stepped into such a family matter, because if we did that for every case of this manner, we would have a communist nation.

If her husband truly believes that she would have wanted to die, then I commend him for his efforts, but still am a little bitter towards him for breaking the law of the lord.

In the parents' case, i commend them for wanting to take care of their daughter even though she is in a vegetated state.

Starving her is not the way to go about doing this. Even if she cannot feel it, and does not know that she is dying, I believe that we could all have more closure if we used a less barbaric method. Even criminals get better treatment that this.

I am sorry.... no one has been here for ages, and most probably no one will respond to this post but:

An just what IS the law of the lord? You don't know, because no one has heard it out of his (or hers) mouth. You can't assume the "lord" will back you up just because you believe that his law supports your case.

Fawkes- usually when you start debating politics on a message board, they turn ugly and everyone gets mad at each other. Plus, a lot of people here aren't from the USA and might not know a lot about American politics. Just my opinion, but I think we should steer clear of political debates on this board.
