As of late I have been feeling very anti-gun because there was just a massive shooting in my are. But what I find to be more interesting rather than if it is moral or not, is if it actually is technically legal to own a gun. We all know that the second amendment says that "the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed". But a lot of people don't know the whole thing reads "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
The militia that is mentioned no longer exists. It has basically transformed into the National Guard. So the second amendment very well actually mean that only National Guardsmen and women are legally guaranteed that right to have a firearm.
On a less sirius note, wouldn't it be funny if the writers actually meant the right to have a bears arms rather than own munitions?

Hehe, whoopsie.
I don't know if this is true but most kids in Australia say you can buy guns over a counter at Grocery Stores in America.
Is this true?
If it is, that's kind of stupid. ;)

That is definitely not true, Riley. I work at a grocery store and we do not sell guns. Guns can be purchased at sporting goods stores, hunting, and specific gun stores. Gun laws vary from state to state, but I'm pretty sure no one can buy a gun at a grocery store.

I think we just need to make it harder to buy guns. The idiot who did the shooting in my area was clearly schizophrenic and had been showing schizophrenic tendencies for years, but had also been purchasing and trading guns for years. He passed the 'background test' to get his gun permit years ago. Shouldn't this be a more extensive test? And shouldn't it be given every year or every few years at least?

I don't think we need to ban guns. But especially after having a mass shooting so close to home, I think the laws need to be much stricter. Yes, guns are used for protection and hunting, but they can so easily be turned into weapons to kill so many people at once. Every life that's taken by a gun (and more importantly, the idiot behind the gun) is one too many.

I agree, Duckie. It's not that guns should be completely illegal (cause you never know, the zombies may attack one of these days), but it shouldn't be so easy for people to get them.

I'm new and this is one of my first posts. I think that gun should Not be illegal. not only for practical reasons but because it is out lined specifically in the constitution. the right to own a gun was put in there for the explicit reason of rebelling against an oppressive government. if gun are outlawed, which is seemingly more likely by the day, then we should all be vary frightened.

I don't think that would happen, at least where you're at. You've got plenty of gun-lovers to go around. If anything, if it does get to the point where guns are illegal, people will simply do what criminals do now: keep them anyway. I know I would, especially in the U.S.

I don't think guns will ever be completely illegal in the US, and I don't think they should. I just think there need to be stricter laws regarding how one acquires a gun and continual psychological testing for people who are allowed to have them. A lot of the people who go on shooting sprees have gotten their guns legally (including the guy who was responsible for the massive shooting near my town) and if people with that many psychological issues can legally get a gun (the guy mentioned above did show signs of a few psychological disorders), there definitely need to be stricter laws.
