This is one of my newest projects.
The sky was a golden color as the sun was slowly setting. The empty fields glistened with dew. Sitting there on that cold little bench, he leaned against his father. He leaned and his father pulled him onto his lap. His father’s beard tickled his forehead but he kept his laughter inside Daddy isn’t well his mind told him. Mommy doesn’t love him anymore, that’s why he isn’t well his mind continued to say.
Mommy hates him it said.
Mommy loves other men it said.
You’ve heard her say it, but never to Daddy now the voice in his head bothered him.
But your Daddy loves you
Don’t you forget that
Mommy doesn’t love him but she loves you
Don’t forget that either. “STOP IT!” he yelled in his mind
“Stop it” he whispered.
“What did you say?” his father asked him. He shook his head.
“I love you Daddy” he said, as the night’s chill began to set in.
“I love you too Charlie.” His father said to him and kissed him on the forehead. His father’s voice was calm which meant he was content, but he knew his father wasn’t happy. He could tell, he couldn’t explain it, but he also felt when his father was hurting on the inside. He always did.
