Portrait puzzler!

How much help will dumbledores portrait give to harry, if any?
i mean, it kinda seems the obvious thing to do but will harry be able to talk to dumbledore in it or can it just advise the headteacher? cos can the portraits think like they could wen they were alive or jus give advice based on what their living person would have done.........so confused bout the whole portrait thing, any ideas much appreciated!

i think that harry will be able to talk to DD. because in previous clues tere are signs that the portraits can talk to anyone

We know for a fact already that the portraits can talk to anyone, as was proven in OotP when Phineas was chatting with Harry after Sirius kicked the bucket.

iirc at the end of HBP, DD's portrait is already there.

As to how they work. Shh, it's magic.

Honestly not sure but I wonder if the portrait goes to where the person thought of as home. ie: Lilly's and James' are in Godric Hollow.

first i think only the headmaters get a portrait - probably its some spell that works in hogwarts, secondly i think harry will be able to talk to dds prtrait but i dont think it will be able to help him as dd could, and i dont mean the things dd could have done himself, i mean also in talking and advising probably not all of what dd could have thought, the picture can too, its like when u picture someone it gives u a good idea of how he looks but it just freezes one side of him out one moment (muggle picturing i mean), so possibly its like that with the personality, oppinions and thoughts too, cuz otherwise whats the point in having dd die if he can still advise as before..?

remember when DD told phineas to go and tell message to sirius and phineas said that there might be no portrait because sirius might have thrown it away like he did with the rest of the house
it means that phineas knew what was going around him so if harry tell DD what was going on DD could give him advice as before but i dont think that DD will have some big role
it would be too easy
anyway, harry isnt going back to hogwarts and he cant take the portrait with him
