How did you imagine...

Postby b.scheller » Sunday 11 December 2005 11:30:05am

I'd just like to say, that prior to the movies, everything in my mind had been different about Harry Potter. The way the castle looked and worked, their school uniforms, Diagon Alley and everything else related to that Harry Potter universe.

It's a little sad but the movies have destroyed some of the things my imagination has created and replaced it with the way things looked in the movies. I don't think all of them have been negative, for example seeing the Quidditch match in the first movie, has somewhat explained the game more. I guess it's harder to understand a sport without having to seen it or played it.

At the same time, I still prefer the way, I've imagined the castle to look. Perhaps I'll draw pictures of what I think it should look like. What abotu therest of you? Did you imagine the way things look before the movies, as they look in the movies or did you have something totally different?

I imagined Hermione way different. Her hair was real messy, and her posture was bad. And Harry's hair was supposed to be much messier. Hagrid looks kind of like how I pictured him, and the quidditch match looks like how I pictured it. I guess you can't really make the movie absolutly parrallel to the books, and many people have different images of characters, so it's impossible to keep everyone happy. All in all, I think they did a good job, compared to other movies which totally wrecked the books.

That's how it is with every book i read. i also tend to ignore character discriptions and place myself as the hero. Everything in the castle was way different than i imagined though, except the dungeons

I agree, I was picturing her with really frizzy, very curly hair. The way Harry's portrayed in the movies, is quite neat, it's like the Beatles bob. It looks as if it's combed. I was expecting either curly, frizzy or very messy hair. Something that looks like it hasn't been combed for a while.

The characters that i had pictured differently where the weasley twins, but i suppose casting teenage redhead actor twins would be pretty hard. Also, Arthur Weasley was different in my mind, as well as fudge.

I watch a lot of anime, so I kind of expected Harry's hair to be spikey. Hermione's big teeth were always a big problem, because I could never imagine them

Arthur isn't supposed to be heavy. Much thinner, and balder

Dudley is supposed to be HUGE

I still think that they should have put Dudley in a fat suit. And he's supposed to be blonde, unless I'm mistaken.

Exactly, Dudley should be blonde as should Petunia if I remember correctly.

I imagine Dobby completely different, not so skinny.

I didn't like Gilderoy Lockhart, I imagined him with longer curly hair...

I was a little disappointed with the way Hargid looks in the movie, because he is described as twice as big as a normal man... But that is of course difficult to show in a movie.

Yup, Dudley was blond and very fat. Dobby was uglier in the movies, I expected something more esthetically pleasing.

Neither Gilderoy nor Lupin were the characters I imagined. Gilderoy was more of a metrosexual than the one in the movie, while Lupin looked poorer and more dishevelled.

As for Hagrid, at first I was a little dissapointed by his size but overall he seems to have Hagrid pretty down pat.

Gilderoy didn't look the way I imagined him to look. I imagined him as being younger, slimmer, and have longer hair,
BUT: He protrayed the character exactly as I thought the character ought to be portrayed, and OI think he did the best job is CoS Film.
