A contradiction in the book (I think)

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

A contradiction in the book (I think)

Postby Jotomicron » Wednesday 24 September 2003 9:23:19pm

I didn't know where to post that, but decided here was the best place.
While re-reading OotP for the nth time, I just spoted this "mistake":

While talking about being an Auror, Tonks says:
I only qualified a year ago

But further more, at the Carrers Advice, McGonagall says:
I don't think anybody has been taken on in the last three years.

I know it may be not a mistake.

Well spotted!
but maybe they have to train for like 3 years before they become an auror? that might explain it cause then it would be like 4 years ago that they took on tonks?

I know a bit o fa long shot but hey!!

Does seem like a contradiction. Very observant Jotomicron!

Yes, I agree with Violet.

I believe, sorry I still have read OotP only once , that Auror training takes 3 years? So 1 year + 3 years is 4 years ago.
So yeah, maybe Tonks was the last Auror to complete training?

I wonder if we will get to meet other young Aurors in the next books!

I agree with Violet, I don't think you get out of Hogwarts and run off fighting dark wizards straight away, there must be quite a bit of training !

yes...qualified and taken could be two different things

taken just means that u are accepted and qualified probably means u finisehed the training and graduated

Hmmm this is an intresting thread. It seems like a contradiction to me though.

well i guess it is a contradiction if you are going from when tonks actually officially became an auror because that was only a year ago.
However, if u go from when she started training then that was 4 years ago, which is what i think that JK meant.

they do say it, indeed! McGonagall says it's three years more, after Hogwarts. (I think it was Accio who said it, sry if it wasn't  )
