harry's grandparents?

Postby pinky p » Thursday 28 August 2003 10:03:17pm

in the books, do they ever mention harrys grandparents? are any of them alive? i think they said petunia and dudley are harry's only blood relatives on his moms side, because he had to live with them because of that whole blood protection thing. but what about on his dad's side? did his dad have any brothers or sisters, and what happened to his parents?

does anyone think they could still be alive? or if you think they're dead, how did they die?

oh yeah, were lily and petunia's parents squibs?

whadya think?

Nice topic, princess! Yeah what I remember from book5 (it's been a while since I read it) is that Sirius was 'accepted as a second son' or something along those lines. I guess that would mean that James did not have any brothers or sisters. His parents probably have died, because it is said that the Dursleys are his only livings relatives. Though they probably haven't died normally, because that's a bit strange now that I think of it, most wizards live to be 150 at least!

Maybe James' parents were killed by Voldemort or his followers? They might have been aurors?

Come to think of that...we also didn't see Ron's grandparents.
It seems like the older generation were never mentioned in the books before except for Neville's granny and Dumbledore who are still alive.

Maybe most elder wizards/witches lost their lives during Lord Voldemort's evil reign.

Well I do not think LV killed everybody.
It's just that mentionning them must be useless regarding Harry's story.
We really don't need to hear about Ron's grandparents if they play no part in the story.
I guess it's like that.

Lord Voldemort might not to be the one to kill them...but his followers did so many things even without LV's knowledge...just like Barty Crouch Jr, Bellatrix, who are responsible for torturing the Longbottoms for the pure fun

yes, that's what i thought of too, but wouldn't we have heard about it if they were aurors? and they weren't in the picture of the old order of the pheonix

I think it would explain some things if James' parents were killed by LV, because (Lupin? Sirius?) told Harry that "whatever else you think, James always hated the dark arts". But that was when they were 15, and didn't Sirius mention living with them longer than that? Or maybe their death was the reason he moved into his own house? I can't believe James' parents would just up and disappear without it being important somehow. They are most likely wizards, since im purty sure Snape would have taken advantage of the excuse to call him "mudblood" if they weren't.

well, maybe LV was like hitler. hitler hated all Jews (LV: muggle-borns), hitler hated the old (LV: most likely same thing). it's kinda just a play on history, if you look at it right.

Well, It has always struck me as odd that all of Harry's family is dead. Do you remember when he saw them all in the mirror of erised? How could all of his family just die so young. Maybe LV did kill them because he wanted to get rid of anyone that might want to protect Harry. Hmm, now I remember something else though. Out of all the pictures that Harry has of his parents, the wedding and such, his grandparents arent there at all. They realy should be at there own son's wedding. So Maybe they might have died before that even?

I think they must have died because Harry could see them in the mirror of erised (desire spelled backwards, as in a mirror). He didn't see them in the wizard photo of his parent's wedding (where the parents of the bride and groom would have had full showing). Plus they came out of the wand at GoF when Harry needed them the most.

Still, love and caring goes beyond life and death (OotP, Gof). Voldemort's greatest weakness; Harry's greatest strength
