What would make you not want to read any more HP?

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

What would make you not want to read any more HP?

Postby Hermione » Monday 16 June 2003 12:46:33am

With the advent of Book 5, I have one question for Broomsticksandowls: would anything at all make you not want to read any more Harry Potter books? And if there is something, what would it be?

I think I would be driven away from the HP books if Rowling put in a very large amount of sappy romance stuff in Book 5. I probably would be discouraged from reading another HP book for a very long while.

What about you guys?

Ugh, I definitely agree with that. There better not be any midnight trysting in the Astronomy Tower! ;)

Or if Voldemort ended up being Harry's father. Grr, I'd be angry.

Or if some exchange studend showed up and ended up being Harry/Draco/Snape/Dumbledore/Lupin/Ron/Sirius's long lost niece/nephew/cousin/son/daughter/sister/brother. None of that Mary Sue stuff...

Well, Voldemort won't be Harry's father, Jo has stated that (fortunately)

And a little romance won't be bad, I mean of they are fifteen and Jo doesn't write about that the series would lost a big part of their realism.

Yeah, a little, but not too much..

I don't think that anything will make me stop reading the books... I will be annoyed, but will still read them! I just wont' be as obsesed... :(

Like the LOTR movies... I think they have done a horrible job, and completely failed to get the brilliance of the bokos across, but I sitll go and see them when they come out!!! :D

Alot of things will annoy me though, like either DD or Voldie being related to Harry... or just pathetic things like that, that have been done over alredy, such as in star wars, or anything else like that!!!

Yes totally - in fact its my biggest fear :( I had like couple of post about that - because Im afraid that the book is all gonna have romantic tone to it. Why? Cause JKR has bee talking about hormones in EverY interview!!!

OK, so Im not the only one who is concern about that! yey! :D

yeah, but what u say on lord of the rings, i think they have actually done a very good job with the time that they have, i mean, to get everything right, such as how frodo left, the old forest, tom bombadil, and the barrow downs, etc. it would have take three times as long to film, and the movies would be around 6-8 hours each, now what they could have done is divide it up into 6 movies, which is actually how the books are divided, each book having 2 books in it, and then they could have put in more detail, but i think that they didn't want to make us wait that long, or spend that much money

It wasn't really those kind of things that annoyed me about the movies...
It's just that htey pratically turned a really excellent story into a glorified action movie... It would take way too long to explain specifics that annoyed me about it, I'll just leave it at 'I though they were bad'

But still, my point was, all that aside, I'm still going to go see the return of the king at the cinemas!!! ;)

urrm ok.....

back on topic.
i think the whole hormones thing has been over exagerated in the interviews, (they have probbably edited it to make it look like that).

Yeah there will be a little bit of luvvin i think in an interview JK said something like, hary always has very bad things happening to him so a little light snogging would take his mind off it.

a little light snogging would be good but not ETERNAL LOVE they are too young at 15 i didn't know what love was

i still dont!

I think that romance would have to be a necessity for future books in the series to keep its realness (plus, I'm a naturally sappy person). I do agree with all of you that too much romance in book five wouldn't be very good; after all, they are only fifteen! But I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little more sap in the sixth or seventh book. (PS ... I have yet to read OotP ... I'm getting it on Monday!)

On the topic of what would make me stop reading the books:
When Harry dies. ^_^ I'm dead serious though (no pun intended)... I love the books so much, the only thing that would make me quit reading them is if Harry died! Though I doubt he will till the seventh book, as the whole series is called the "Harry Potter" series! :D Even then, though, I would most likely read every book over and over again, you know, just to keep Harry alive in my head! (I've already read books 1-3 13 times, and GoF 12 times 8)).

I don't think there's anything that JKR could put in book 5 to stop me from reading. I'd at least read the seven books originally planned, just to see how it all ends. I might not love the books the way I do now but I'd definately read them all. Now if JKR would decide to continue the series (which I seriously doubt) to make more money I'm not sure wether I'd bother to read those.

As for the romance discussion, I wouldn't mind some romance (but I'm a sappy person ) as long as it stays realistic.

I think I would stop reading them if it got to sappy and also if harry died. I mean come on....that would be a little discouraging. I mean if she didnt kill him off....fans would probably demand more of the series. And I dont think she wil contintue it after 7. But........if she did kill him off fans would be displeased. So in a way she is k inda stuck, we dont know what she will do.

i think JK has a strong enough will to not write any more HP books even if Harry lives.

but, what would make me stop reading HP??? Nothing. absolutely nothing. but, some things might make me completely disgusted with the books, and i might go into a tantrum and write horrible letters to JK, but i would never stop reading HP. :D

somethings that would make me very disgusted might be: DD turning evil, ROn turning evil, Lupin dieing, Draco and Hermione gettting together, and, as has already been said, TOO MUCH romance. i think a little would not hurt, though. :)
