Boggarts

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

That's certainly a possibility. Especially Voldemort, I actually wouldn't want to know first hand what it feels like if he makes you "pay". And one day, I read a really great fanfiction in which Snape's boggart turned into DD telling him he was not worth the trust he was given. :-(
But for some reason, I think Snape's boggart is he himself, getting lost in the dark arts again. Even DD fears the worst in Snape might come out again, and maybe that's also what Snape fears the most: the worst in him. His boggart might turn into himself in full Death Eater robes, casting Avada Kedavra.

Then again, it's possibly Lockhart forcing him to brew a love potion.

Anyway, I hope we're going to see it!

Ok. Firstly I'm assuming a persons boggarts change. Well they have to, as Harry's boggart couldn't have been a dementor in Bk1 & 2 could it, he hadn't even been near them. It was during exams when Hermione encountered her boggart, so personally I think it may well have been true at that time. I think it would have changed since then though. She's grown up a little, and at least partly thinks there are more important stuff than books. Now it could well be something happening involving Harry or Ron.
And another thing, my last post in this topic made a comment about Harry's boggart not being a dementor, but hearing his parents before they die. And then, Tanuki, being that natural analsyt made the comment I knew one of you was going to point out. That having a dementor as a boggart represented fear itself. But what can that mean. Fear. Supposedly feeling fear. And what does he fear, but dementors. And why does he fear the dementors? Because every time he goes near them he hears his parents dying. If his worst memory was losing a quidditch game, yeah it might bring back bad memories, but a dementor probably wouldn't be his boggart. It's because of that memory that a dementor is his boggart.
Personally, I want to know what LV's boggart is, and I'm still very curious of what Snape's is.
And Siana, I can't believe English isn't your first language!! You can't even tell, you've got better language skills than half the people I know lol. And you did use my "two cents" in the correct way.

It meant, exactly what most people think it met. harry had no specific fear at the time for the boggart to feed off of. However, Harry's experiences with the dementors dredged up horrible memories, making Harry afraid of the dementor itself. He did not really think about its ability to suck the soul out of you, but instead focused on the fact that it could induce fear itself. So, the boggart only needed to feed on Harry's fear of having to face the horrible memories that a Dementor brings up, or fear itself.

However, things can change. Harry's worst memory changed from three to five, from his parents death to the event in the cemetary with Voldermort mocking him

LOL!

Does it actually make a difference if Harry fears dementors or his parents' voices? For him, it's one and the same, so I guess you cannot seperate them. If he didn't hear the things he hears when he faces a dementor, he wouldn't fear a dementor, and a dementor is the only way to hear them. It's the same with Lupin, he doesn't fear the moon itself, but what it does with him.

Ah, and thanks, Phoenix in the Ashes!

more on DD's boggart: mayb it would be LV gaining power and conquering the world. he seems to be very fearless otherwise, and that is the main one i can think of. of course, he could be scared of harry dieing, because then LV would rule all. i reckon that he is pretty on top of things though, so that is good.

Well DD's always been a bit different really. I wouldn't be surprised if it something completely ridiculous.
Hey, here's a thought. Maybe it's a dementor like Harry's? Maybe he has a terrible memory or something too. We all know how much he hates having dementors around. JKR seemed to make it very clear as she's stated so much of his dislike for them. I wouldn't be surprised. Why would she include all the stuff about DD hating them, if not for a reason?

I think their nature might be one of them. they are evil things that like to feed on Happy memories leaving only a dried husk behind. For someone like DD who lives with love in his heart at all times, I think that's just unforgivable to him. they might be one of his fears, but with his wisdom, I think we wouldn't want to see what he fears

It's a very plausible idea. Dumbledore believes that what is in our hearts, our dicisions, is what defines us. Dementors suck all the good, happy and comforting memories and thoughts out of ones head, leaving only darkness, and if darkness is what defines you, you are lost. Therefore Azakaban intensifies everything that made people go bad in the first place, it doesn't redeem, it corrupts even more. Dumbledore, who values love above almost everything, might very well fear complete blackness of heart most.

But you're right, we probably wouldn't want to know his greatest fear. He's been gaining wisdom for one and a half centuries, hell knows what he must have seen.

Darn coffee, I cannot bring order in my thoughts today! :)

Definitely, for a man as wise as DD, the things that keep him up at night are too horrific for us to fathom

those are really good questions!!! i have no idea for any of them. maybe for the claustraphobia one, it might turn in to a box and close its dorr around the person. just a guess

yay!! support! claustrophobia is quite hard to get your head around. often people have claustrophobia because of some event, so maybe it will choose that.

wait, i just had an idea. why should boggarts want to do anything about claustrophobia? you see, i dont think that is that persons fear. a phobia is something like fear, but it isnt personal. loads of people have a fear of heights, or claustrophobia. i think that the boggart responds more to the persons character, rather than anything else. it shows them something that is deeply rooted within them, but is a personal fear of their own. and, most of the time, it has a reason. it is related to them. so, i believe that if you had claustrophobia, that wouldnt be shown. the boggart would show something else, more personally linked. thats my personal thought.
