Come to think of it in all of the books he NEVER miscalculated anything. He didn't plan on Draco disarming him, but that worked out perfectly because it still kept the wand safe. Awesome.

Dumbledore used scientific reasoning to predict what people would do. That doesn't mean he was always right. He admits he made a terrible mistake in OotP, but he made predictions based on what people had done before, and that's why he was correct very many times.
