well we never really learnt how a pensieve works, apart from it being described as a silvery subtance being pulled from their heads. but maybe there's more to it? it seems quite a mysterious thing and it's only really been touched on but ohhh i hope we do learn more about harry's infancy that would be good.

appears i'm all alone in my opinion of harry in OotP  oh well, but tanuki said:

It's not so much attention seeking, because attention is kind of the last thing Harry wants. Partially, he wants everyoe to believe him. People have an unpleasant habit of assuming he wants to be famous, when all he wants is a normal life with his friends and a decent family. Couple that with a frustration stemming from a feeling of having no control of his life (and with so many secrets being kept around him and people continually trying to protect him by excluding him, these feelings are not unfounded) and you get one very upset teenager

and i would agree with you there tanuki, i can understand why he got so angsty and he hates attention and the whole fame thing. i think the thing that annoys him most is people constantly keeping secrets from him to 'protect' him when he's proved time and time again that he is more than capable to cope with things. until people start to 'protect' him from the truth, and i think that only knowing half the truth is much more dangerous than knowing the whole truth.

Well I had an idea that the Ring of Fire surrounding DD and Harry could be the tail of a phoenix, or at least some sort of fire protection put over the two my Fawkes. And even though it appears as though DD himself is causing the effect, he may just be the one that is swirling the fire around, whereas Fawkes just left it there. Now what do you think is happening in the background? Any ideas where they could be?

Just looking at the UK covers in more detail (http://www.hpana.com/news.18529.html) and three things jumped out at me which may be of interest:

Firstly, the Adult UK version clearly shows advanced potions, which indicates that Harry et al (I guess Neville too) will be studying this next year and therefore are probably trying to become aurors.

Secondly on the UK kids version, Dumbledore looks scared and angry. When fighting Voldermort previously in OotP he was always calm. Clearly Harry must be in mortal danger.

Thirdly, Harry's scar (not only being the in the middle of his forehead), is glowing. It seems that Voldie is nearby or at least very angry too.....

Of course, there is always the old saying... 'Never judge a book by its cover'

We could be miles off target because the artists decided to go with artistic liscence...ok, maybe not for the thing in general but you have to be careful about things like the placing of the scar or the fact it is glowing...to me that just says bad artist interpretation.

it think its interesting that DD appears on the cover to both the american and british books! normally characters bar harry aren't shown- except PoA.

This must mean that DD plays a huge role in the book....but what i hear you cry?

Ahhh.... so somebody else did notice the glowing...
Yeah I could think that an artist could maybe read a bit about Harry's scar hurting, and interpret it in a picture as it glowing. And Harry's been in mortal danger a lot. AAAnd DD wasn't that calm at the end of OoTP. He just talked calmly to Voldemort, which is good tactics. He was probably freaked out fo his mind....

yeah too right, i think that the covers imply a very close relationship between DD and harry in the book! maybe DD wakes up and realising that he is gonna have to give harry his own special revision on how to defend and eventually try and destroy Voldemort

I wouldn't mind if in the upcoming book HBP, that DD teaches Harry a few things. We rarely get to see DD, but when we do, I'm sure we can all agree it is a real treat!!

Yeah it always is. He always reacts in a completely different way than what Harry thinks he will.
I wouldn't go so far as to want him to divulge the secrets of how to destroy Voldemort though lol.

Here's the back cover of the American edition:

Who's the red haired girl on the American cover, Ginny or Lily? She kinda seems set apart from Ron and Hermione, she's not as clear as the others, she seems somewhat older, at least to me, and her hair is not of the same red as Ron's. I remember a rumour saying we'd find out more about Lily in book six, so I'm leaning towards Lily. It would also fit the pensieve (if it's one) Harry and Dumbledore are looking into.

-->it looks like there'll be information on the past, could it be connected to the old potions book on the adult cover?

-->Why potions, anyway? Will a potion be of importance? What keeps me wondering about this is that the adult covers usually show something directly connected to the title, like a myterious stone, the entrance of a chamber, a fortress, a dragon (well, slightly connected with the GoF), now does a book on advanced potions have something to do with the HBP? The draught of the living dead mentioned in book 1 is bound to be used somehow, I think...

-->Dumbledore and Harry fight side by side, and Dumbledore looks very afraid. Dumbledore on both covers...seems he plays a bigger role than usual...is he the HBP?

-->The Dark Mark on the American edition also points to a Death Eater raid or a fight won by Voldemort/the Death Eaters. I love the American illustrations, they're always so detailed, and every little part is important.

yeah. it seems as if the red haired girl would be Lily. we are supposed to learn more about her in this book, so she probably plays a REALLY big part to be included on the cover!! Yeah, i've been wondering about the potions thing as well, maybe the way to beat Voldemort is hidden in a potions book? or they have to make a potion which saves them or something. or maybe snape has a big role in the book?

that potion part got me thinking too. wonder what they are brewing in there o.o

The girl with red hair looks older then others so I also think it may be Lilly!

But what I wanted to ask you guys is - have you seen the deluxe version of Harry Potter book? The art on front cover is soooo much better (imo)!!!

I mean its $20 more then regular book, but I changed my preorder anyway because there is a huuuge difference in cover.

Also...they are going though a forest, looking for someone/thing o_o
