The Marauder's Map

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

I don`t know but maybe fred and george did not see peter because they were always to distracted when they used the map :-?

I think it is possible that the map helped them

I was just wondering if the Map could show people using the time turner. It seemed unlikely that Lupin would have missed 2 sets of Harry and Hermionie when he was examining the situation the whole time.

Very true, Cougerman. (BTW, haven't seen you around for awhile!) Anyway, Harry and Hermione were waiting in the forest when their past selves were dragged into the Willow. As we saw in the movie (it would have to fold out and such, because one small piece wouldn't fit all of Hogwarts), the map folded out, and the part that Harry and Hermione were on were hidden in one of the folds. And besides, once Lupin saw them drug into the Willow, he took off. Wouldn't have had time to unfold the map and see the other two there.

Ya I think TDM is right. And most important, without the knowledge of Hermione having a time turner, Lupin wouldn't be looking for two Hermione. Lupin, probably, spotted the trio and focus his attention on them, not knowing that the future Harry and Hermione are present at that time as well.

The Marauder's Map doesn't show everybody on the map at all times - It would be near impossible to find anybody if it did. It seems to show people relevent to whoever's using it. I think that although TDM's reason for Lupin not seeing the Harry and Hermione doubles is the most probable, it could also be that the time-travelling Harry and Hermione weren't relevent to Lupin ( or Snape for that matter) at the time.

I'm not sure I agree or completely understand the relevancy theory Eol. :???: IF certain people aren't being shown then what is the point of the map. I guess if certain people aren't being shown I would guess that they would be the people who aren't in motion. But that doesn't seem to really make sence either.

Also, Fred and George didn't know who Peter Pettigrew was, they probably thought he was just some obscure first year if they did spot him on the map.

I think the map shows everyone at all times. Fred and George wouldn't really pay attention to anyone on the map except those who had the power to punish them (Filtch, Snape...)

Yeah, but Fred and George knew the story about Harry, and then probably would have known about Peter, if not from their parents, then most certainly from the Extendable Ears!

I agree. The function of the map is to show everyone for who they really are no matter what magical or muggle guise they are using to hide themselves. If it fails at this, what point does it serve :???: Other than insulting Snape of course
