Snape is a pitiful character! He doesn't have any bravery or valour or anything likable at all!

Right that's why he's in Slytherine.

Not necessarily, no matter whether he is spy for Voldemort or spy for Dumbledore he must be brave to put himself in so much danger. Lucius and the other deatheaters never do, they always manage to slime their way out of admitting to being a deatheater but Snape has which is brave because if Dumbledore hadn't believed he wished to change he would have been sent to Azkaban and if Dumbledore had found out he lied he would have probably ended up in Azkaban.
He also never legged it when Voldemort returned which could be because he was Voldemorts spy or just shows how brave he is in comparision to other ex-deatheaters like Karkaroff.

Whatever it is that Snape does and whoever it is he does it for he has to be brave to risk his own life for the cause he supports.

And then there is the binding himself to Draco's fate like that aswell, I call that brave. It may have lead to the death of Dumbledore but Dumbledore was dying anyway, we know that.

And killing Dumbledore, either Dumbledore is his protection or killing him uncovers his deception and either way you'd have to be brave to do that on the top of the highest tower with all of his supporters waiting for you below.

Can you imagine Pettigrew having the strength of character to do any of the things that Snape has done, I doubt it, Pettigrew is what you call a pittiful character with no valour or backbone. Snape never begs for mercy or tries to justify himself he just gets on with what he has to do and takes the consequences head on.

Thank you, Scellanis! Now I don't have to explain it!  :D
I still feel that Peter's got something in him. Why else would he be put in Gryffindor?

Fair enough, but I still don't think that Snape is a very likable character. He's just so dodgy.

I know. I don't like him like that much either. I just think that J.K. Rowling did an excellent job on him.

She did, so well that we'll probably still be arguing about him at the end of the 7th book!

I just read on J.K. Rowling's web-site yesterday, that there will still be plenty left to discuss, so don't despair message-board-users.
I almost wish that it wasn't so.

Same here. We just keep going around arguing in circles over and over again. Why do we have two threads anyway? :-?

Only two? I thought there was like three :???:
Personally I think Snape showed his true colours in the last book and this whole snape being good thing is just people looking into things too much.

I revived the topic in The Great Hall after 3 years of inactivity, to see how interesting it would be to look back and compare some of the old views to modern ones.

It was an insanely bad idea - I'm considering locking it. We don't need 2 threads.

yes, i agree. now, back to snape. i've come to the conclusion that he isn't pure evil. he might think evil and act evil, but deep down he's not all bad. but i do think he's a DE.
