Half-Blood Prince anti-climactic

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

I think I read somewhere that J.K. Rowling said the book 6 was really a first-parter as opposed to a stand-alone book like the books preceding book 6 that clearly have a beginning, middle, and end. Meaning...books 6 and 7 are parts I and II of the final story...instead of the two books being combined for one massive finale. When you look at book 6 that way--as the first half of the last story--rather than HBP as a stand-alone book, I think it makes more sense.

The story begun in book 6 is not supposed to be complete, and as for the Half-Blood Prince seeming like a subplot (for which I agree having read book 6), if book 6 is part I of the final story, perhaps the "Half-Blood Prince" plays a much larger role in book 7. I think it makes sense that Snape would play a much bigger role in book 7 what with us learning (I presume!) more about Snape when he was in school and who he grew up to be. I think perhaps that feeling of kinship with the "Half-Blood Prince" Harry felt (prior to finding out it was Snape and Snape killing Dumbledore) might be foreshadowing to Harry and Snape working together in the latter part of book 7. So much of Snape's story we just don't know...

Just my thoughts! :)

yeah i completely agree lelie. snape is so significant to this book...and yeah i think he will be even more so in the next one, hes starting to get really deeply involved in the plot and with harry, all the stuff about harry wanting to 'get' snape at the end of HBP. i hope we find out lots more about him anyway!!

I believe at the end of HBP, Hermione said it must have been Snape's mother who gave him the book.

Hi Person1, I haven't got my book at the moment - lent it to someone. But I thought Hermione said that she thought it might be Eileen Prince but she was going to research it more. She hadn't made the connection with Snape yet and doesn't know she's his mother. By the way, can anyone remember where it says she's his mother, I can't remember. We don't know when Eileen was at Hogwarts - if she was the same age as LV then she would have been about 29 when she had Snape. If she was at Hogwarts at same time as LV, I wonder if Eileen and LV were friends...?

At the end of the book, after DD's death. Page 635-637 US version

"Harry, I found something out this morning, in the library."
"R.A.B.?"...
""I was going through the rest of the old Prophets and there was a tiny announcement about Eileen Price marrying a man calld Tobias Snape, and then later an announcement saying that she'd given birth to a-"
