how did you feel about book 6 overall?

I thought it was a bit predictable though, and i've only just joined this forum.

I think it was predictable because JKR was tying up lose ends though. I mean she hinted pretty big from early books that Ron and Hermione would find romance. When i was reading OotP there were a lot of gasps of shock from me. When i was reading HBP there were less gasps and more head nodding of "oh right so that is what that all meant".

i know what you mean, i kept on going 'ahhhhh right' but i also gasped in shock a few times, even though i was expecting DD to die (because JKR hates me and is determined to kill off my favourite characters) i still gasped and went 'noooooooooooooo' but i liked that tying up of loose ends, it made it enjoyable for me.

I was expecting DD to die cos i read The Sun. As much as i didn't want it to happen i think it needed to.

There was gasps of shock from me too. My bf kept looking at me like i was going mad!!! But i just kept saying, it's alright it's just the book.

I have to say although it seemed that DD was going to die, was still a bit of a shock to have it happen - still playin on my mind as I re-read the book. Can't believe I have to wait years again for the last bit, but then, after that, really gonna feel a bit empty
Also, I didn't predict Harry not going back to Hogwarts in his final year (although poss. a note from DD for Harry after he died might persuade him to go back) but if it hadn't been aspects that were predictable, we'd all be going WTF most of the time in this book.
One other thing that I've suspected for ages, but now appears not to be true is Dumbledore - the way that he smiled when Harry said V had returned, and other little aspects made me deeply suspicious of him.. tho for the life of my I could never put my finger on why.
Bearing in mind Snape didn't kill Harry at the end, I'm still not convinced he's totally bad, but still undercover.
Oh, I expect great things form the next book... need a time turner to get hold of it really.
Strangely, I was disappointed with the way Harry got with Ginny, and tho R/H is totally obvious now, it's still not utterly settled is it.
Nice touch with Tonks and Lupin tho.

lupin. she'll kill off the last marauder, my list of favourites was this:

no. 1, the best best character in the harry potter universe!!!: SIRIUS!!!!!!!, that was cruel

no. 2 : dumbledore. i loved my dumbly, he was so wise.. but i think he had to die for the story to progress and harry to become a man all by himself, DD gave him enough info before he died, to guide harry.

no 3, next for the chopping block: lupin. cos he's a werewolf and perhaps will die fighting greyback or something. but i will burn my books literally if peter kills him with that bloody silver hand, it's too obvious and not that little rat to kill such a brave man!!!

but sirius still hurts the most. his death was pointless. i can see why DD had to die. there was no reason for sirius to die.

I agree that Sirrus's death was pointless. It seemed cruel that the only "family" Harry had that wasn't the Weasley's or Hermione was taken from him.

Thinking about it it would make sense for Lupin to die. There are so many ways to do it! Hopefully though he will remain intact for the end of 7!

i know i will hope too, but i also hoped for DD, and look where that got me.... although maybe with tonks, lupin will be safe!! maybe JK won't be so sadistic as to tear apart the couple that finally got together with a horrible death. maybe there's a glimmer of hope for poor moony.....

But she's already proved how cruel she can be. I do have an inkling that moony is safe though. I can't see JK killing off too many more essential characters. She's only produced one large character death so far per book (which we know in 7 will either be Harry or Voldermort, as "Neither can live whilst the other survies"), and i don't see why we have any reason to believe that she will buck this trend.

I hope Harry goes back to Hogwarts next year I would be really dissapointed if he didn't...
I would also feel sorry for Ginny...and Ron and Hermione...

I could go on for hours about HBP but I really can't be bothered because I would keep saying the same things and come to the same conclusions...

I hope JK doesn't kill off Lupin because then Tonks would be sad and all the Order also and heaps of students...

But we'll have to wait another 2 years or something for our querries to be answered...

personally i think it'll be anything goes in book 7. we're not going to see the familiar structure, harry with dursleys, harry goes to burrow for rest of summer, go to hogwarts on train, go through school year with minor incidents then just before the end of the school year ends something really bad happens and harry comes through it a little more scarred but wiser.

NOPE!! harry isn't returning to school next year and i can't even predict how the last book will go. we ain't in kansas anymore toto. i think it'll be no-holds barred in the last book. anything can happen. including mulitlple deaths of main characters.

but hopefully not lupin. he's earned his peace. finger crossed for moony.

I'm sure I remember JK saying the reson there were 7 books was because that was one for each of his years at Hogwarts? Surely he's going back!!!

i enjoyed every minute of the book- and since I sat reading for nine hours thats saying alot- however i can't say that its one of my favorites. I agree with those who have said that not much happens and there seemed to be a lot of tying up loose threads. As far as the characters some of them seemed different, personalities seem a little off- especially with DD in my opinions, but of course in times of war everyone is a little tense. I was a little put off by all the lovey dovey scenes. Yes, a little loving is good here and there, but i think it went a bit over the top. It is true also, though that during wars people tend to go a bit love crazy, so I guess I can't say that it wasn't fitting with the times of the book. I've got heaps of questions and I'm dying to know how they all end up resolved- but I can wait. After the last book I tought I'd never make it till this one but since having our son time just flys by- and not only that its almost as fun to speculate on such things as- Where is the real locket, whats going to happen about the motorbike or the mirror, did DD leave any memories Harry might find useful, whats the REAL story with Petunia, why doesn't Snapes house look lived in...etc...

that's so strange, i absolutly hated OotP but no-one agreed with me. but HBP is now my favourite by far, yet no-one else thinks so! maybe i'm destined to never agree.

i find it strange that more than a few people have said there was too much romance in it, but for me i thought the romance was barely there, it was just about there. there was too much else going on for JK to really dwell on it. although i personally found it quite funny when ginny yelled at ron in the corridor after kissing dean. he slightly deserved that.

It makes the most sense. How is Harry going to effect his change on the world from behind protected walls. Plus, It feels even more like an anime, to go on the journey and collect the items he needs to destroy his great enemy

it'll be strange harry not going back, but it'll also be alot more interesting. out on his own in the big wide world. walls can't protect him anymore than DD can.
