Fudge named MoM in Harry's first year???

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Probably just that one time. The whole thing got me thinking. I find it strange that exactly the same time that Harry Potter, the boy who lived, is to attend Hogwarts, Albus Dumbledore is offered a seemingly very unresistable job that would get him away from Hogwarts. And by chance, this year also happened to be the year Voldemort reappeared. Maybe there was a kind of conspiracy that got rid of the old minister in order to keep Dumbledore occupied while the Dark Lord was returning? We know of Lucius's considerable influence in the ministry, and, considering the fact that Dumbledore was conveniently called away by the minister of magic the exact evening Voldemort tried to steal the Philosopher's stone, it seems as though there are more people in the ministry that support the Dark Lord and even knew he was to return. I'd keep my eyes on Fudge...

but, Dumbledore was called to the Ministry the same night that LV tried to steal the Philosopher's STone was because Quirril sent an owl to dumbledore saying he had to go to the ministry, right? I'm not sure, but thats how i read the story.

Oops, was it Quirrell? The first book's the one I've read least of all, so my memory of the others is much better. Ignore the part about the letter then. :) However, the coincidence of DD being offered the job just when Harry started and Voldemort returned remains.

yes, that is kind of confusing. hmmm, well, harry is probably the reason (well, the main reason at least) that DD remained in Hogwarts. I also think that he doens't care for power, not really anyway.

Dumbledore is the kind of figure, the truly powerful end up looking like. They don't desire any power, since they have it already.

yeah. he seems to be that way. he just (like in Ender's Game kinda) has power..but, not from chasing after it and getting people out of the way, but by just being excellent. So, he isn't really ambitious, but he's really good, so he has power whatever he does. :)
