SPEW

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

i do reckon that the elves may be freed. im not sure tho. it seems a kinda central part of their makeup, just how they are. i cant think of any other explanation. they must be bound by deep magic into servitude.

hey, come to think of it, where does this deep magic come from? is it just part of the world? did it come when the world was created? was there a supreme being, like in hte narnia books, who did all that? if so, since harry seems to go with the deep magic, why would he break out hte house elves? that would be against his ideals, and best plan of action. strange...

Yes i have been wondering where all that deep magic, or old magic, that dumbledore has been talking about has come from. Its so confusing. He keeps telling Harry that he has an "ancient magic" in him, but...where does it come from? What kind of magic is it other than the love left by his mother which protects him?

And also, about the communism discussion. Sometimes, although i have no doubt that you already said this, but that i over read it, the more power you get, the more you want. So...that was the problem with the rulers. I mean, communism and everything works really well as a theory, but...when you put it into motion, it does not work. Every human being in , well, Russia for example can't agree to treat everyone else equally, and to abide by all the rules of communism.

The love IS the magic. Human emotions and many other things have great power. Being good makes it easier to livr in the universe, so you can bring out mroe power. Voldy breaks a lot of ruels and si fighting the very universe around him. So he can't bring out as much power

...and since this topic is SPEW we shouldn't forget about the elves! They, too, seem to have some strange and powerful magic that hasn't been explained so far.

I don't even know why I wrote that lol.......crazy.....
Hmm I just realised I've said basically everything I wanna say in this topic, earlier on.... so.... ummm.. FREE THE ELVES!!! GO SPEW!!! Reasons... I dunno, but I'm sure I've said them earlier. If the elves want to be free, free them, if they're held by some ancient magic that makes them want to stay in servatude, break it.
If there is nothing stopping them walking out the door...... Maybe the fact that the door is still closed is the problem.... maybe they can't reach the handle.

So, in essence, their desire is meaningless since WE know better.

Welcome to the sore spot again!

I agree with you, Tanuki, that we should be very careful not to push our beliefs on others. On the other hand: Freedom is such a universal concept. Ever since the French Revolution, people have chosen rather to die, than to sacrifice their values of Liberte, Fraternite, Egalite. I have learned a lot from the discussion in this topic, so I won't jump to conclusions.

Maybe JKR will give us background about the reasons and methods leading to the elven situation. :)

Doubtless it'll all fit in the end.
And where have I heard that Liberte, Fraternite, Egalite before? Oh wasn't it the logo for the French during the revolution or soemthing? I can't rememebr exactly.

Here's the other problem. Elves are NOT human which means they don't necessarily have the same concepts of anything humans do. Would you be willing to sacrifice your very culture for an uncertain future? This isn't a small point. To an elf, freedom may not be anything either dear, or worth dying for. Now, while they do deserve more respect, freeing them will not give them this respect. They will still be regarded as they have been, but now they will have to demand pay or other things. I wonder how many people thought that freedom would make them respected.

I think that house elves should be treated with respect but with SPEW she thinks she can just force them to be free and she doesn't realise her faults, she should just leave them if they wanna be free like dobby than they can talk to dobby about that but just leave them alone they keep to themselves and so should hermione

Hmm and it goes on and on. Human rights it would be... if they were human, which I suppose we are failing to remember sometimes. So how can we judge really. We don't know how they think.
