Ok, just to be clear--- I'm refering to the British Children's versions - the books 99% of readers own, not the Adult ones.

Look at the covers-

The first four all feature Harry, and all feature a major scene from the story.

But not book five! Harry is not there, and the artwork is a phoenix (perhaps Fawkes?) rising from the flames. Ok, Fawkes is in the book- but he plays no real part in the story.

So the cover of book five has "broken the mould." The artwork is SYMBOLIC , representing the Order, rather than a scene from the book.

It is also the first time the book has had a picture that actually reflects the title.

That back of the book though id a bit different though.
It show the figures in the fountain at the ministry of magic - the wizard, witch, centaur, goblin and house-elf with the water shooting out of them.

I thought the cover did show a major scene from the books-it shows Fawkes being reborn from the ashes after having swallowed the Avada Kedavra curse for Dumbledore at the DDvsLV duel at the ministry of magic-hence the statues on the back cover. Or am I wrong?

When Fawkes is reborn from the ashes he is just a feeble baby bird isn't he? So it can't be that. But it is probably refering to the bit where he appears and stops DD being hit by the curse.

isn't the fountaun all smashed to pieces at that part of the story ?

Exactly, like on PoA. You have Buckbeak being ridden by Hermione and Harry to save Sirius on the front, and Sirius as a dog on the back...completely seperate.

Sadly, in America, we never see these versions. So Harry is still on the cover.

Oh is that supposed to be a dog on the back? I thought is was supposed to be Lupin in werewolf form looking up at Harry and Hermione :???:

Could be Lupin, never crossed my mind! :-?

I've seen the AMerican editions covers too, they're vastly different.

I really think it is sirius as snuffles, why put lupin ? cos' the black dog is also hary's vision of death as he thinks

I thught it was Lupin, firstly because when Hermione and Harry ride Buckbeak, Lupin is running round the forest in werewolf form, but also because of the moon pictured behind buckbeak, which is what turns Lupin into w werewolf in the first palce. There isnt any trees with the dog/wolf though so you might be right.

Nice thought about Lupin.
But I would have thought it would be Sirius. The "grim" is mentionned throughout the book - at Florish and Blots, by Trelawny, so I'd put my money on it being Sirius as "snuffles".

I've checked all the first four childrens books (my opy of OotP is the adult edition and so has JK on the back!) and they all in my opinion have seperate images front and back, so I'm going to go with Sirius, the books more about him and the dog.grim anyway.
