For fan of Sirius only: Keep Out HAters!!!

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

Problem is, people in photographs can't talk as far as I know, and people in portraits can! So I think/hope/wonder there is a painting of Sirius somewhere..

I think not, also I find it odd that there aren't any paintings of Lily and James Potter. Surely someone like Dumbledore could have foreseen that they might be killed and that it would be nice for Harry to be able to talk with his parents? I sure hope we get an explination for the lack of paintings in the next books : ) !

it is possible, (now this is something that just struck me, it is 1 o'clock, and i have to get up at 6 thirty tomorrow lol) that if there were any, maybe voldemort tried to get rid of them because potter &lily may have known something they hadn't said at the time ... or they were hidden from harry so that he doesn't find out that his father was a git and his mother didn't love him (his father) ... but i prefer the first

:-? yes, sirius was on the photo moody showed him, but just having a photo that features sirius wouldn't really be enough to give harry any closure. I'm thinking that that archway and veil that he fell into is goin to play a rather large part in the future and may have something to do with bringing sirius back in the next book. After all, luna and harry(both of whom can see thestrals) could hear voices from the veil when no one else could. Still, i was absolutely stunned when i read the loss of dear sirius, one of my favorite characters in the series. im also hoping that the next book will reveal a little more about the past of harry's parents.

yeah, i don't think that it is the last of sirius, but, i don't think he will come back to life, dumbledore said in an earlier book that no spell can bring people back to life

There's always the picture in Harry's Photo Album from his parents wedding, and I'm sure that there are portraits of him from his younger days...his parents were crazy...there must be at least one! But I agree, I thought of that too...a picture would...ease...my aching heart *SOB* :(

About the talking portraits issue, supposing a painted self has all the memories of the subject at the time of the painting, then everything occuring to the real person after the painting would not be known to the painted one, mmh ?

So, if there is a painting of Sirius somewhere, like from his childhood mounting a poney, he would not know much of Harry, James and co.

OK, just a thought that passed my mind

Portraits and Memories

I actually thought it was pretty clear that the paintings were imbued with the memories of the person at the time of the painting. It can't be that hard to do magically; Tom Riddle did it to his diary in his fifth year.

Good theory but; Phineus is Sirius's great-great-grandfather which means at least 80 years (if everyone has kids at 20) between them, or 120 years (for 30).

Wizards do live longer but I would imagine that paintings are sentient and can learn as they get older too, if not the Fat Lady wouldn't be able to learn a new password every term.

But I would imagine they start with only memories at the time of painting so they'd need one of Sirius after Harry was born.

I totally agree, but as i said earlier, maybe that they're hidden, and if they are there must be a reason ... (a reason maybe linked to their knowledge)
