SPEW

Which one is your favorite so far. Are they getting even better as the characters develop over time?

or is the theory 'ignorance is bliss' correct in this situation? i draw my interpretation of 'return of the native' by thomas hardy here, but if a person has dreams and aspires and dreams of better things they will ultimatly, fail, be disappointed and crushed by the situation they are in, which is often inescapable. so it's better to not know anything beyond what you have always known.

however this is a depressing thought and

no one is truly free

in my darker moments i would agree with you hagger, but freedom is in the mind and if a person is fighting for their freedom they are fighting for the most basic and instinctive of rights. freedom is perhaps the most inspiring things i can think of...and one of the most depressing when i think that i will never really be free. but i'm torn between my pessismistic realism and my romantic optimistic ideals.

remember,
"stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage" if you feel free in your mind you are free and no-one can ever take away your freedom of thought. they can take away your physical freedom, throw you in jail, beat you till you pass out. but they can never take your mind.

yes, but im just trying to be depressing right now. personally, i think we should be free. but what would it involve? i just look into my future, at getting out of school, and then into university, then into jobs, then into old age, and i cant see myself free physically anytime at all. but, if i think about mentally being free, i kno that we all can think what we want, in theory. but we just choose not to. the house elves dont want to think about how good freedom might be for them, so they keep to themselves. they are free to explore their own place, and that is all they want. ignorance is bliss for them, i believe. they are as free as they want to be, and that is enough. they delight in service. people are supposed to be free to do what makes them happy, and i wouldnt want to have freedom to do anything else. they want to serve, and that works well for all. i just believe they should have what they want. even if they could break their bond of slavery, im not sure they would choose to. its too scary, and too big a choice.

yeah, seriously, now that she has spent time with them and see how they take to freedom, do you think she will change her attitude about them in the next book?

Nope! Hermione is too set in her ways to see that she could be wrong just yet. Just my opinion.

To some extend: yes. But I think, JKR is preparing us for things to come. Even though Hermione's approach seems to be somewhat misguided, her intentions are pure. JKR once said, she likes Hermione best of the three. Taking all this into consideration, we can expect things to unfold. :-) My favourite idea is still an elven revolution during the upcoming war. :o

tht would be very cool, but im not sure if this book is goin 2 b about big battles. i imagine it 2 b lots of duels, and individual characters, and no big battle. the house elves could have other uses though... infiltration and things... that would be more of the scale i was thinking of.

i dont think hermione will give it up, because it isnt in her character. she is intelligent, but very stubborn. when she sees something that she thinks is wrong, (like Rita Skeeter), she will deal with it. maybe it will lead to somehting.

i dont like SPEW, and she is so determined on it!! doesnt she understand that most of the house-elves like doing what they are doing? and she always backs up Kreacher, but he walks around calling her a mudblood!!
