Suspended because you failed to turn up for detention class....which country did you live in?!?!??! This is way too strict, unless you are a repeat offender which I don't think so...

Perhaps you can call your form teacher (if you dare not go back to the school and explain the reason to her/him), and tell her/him abt whether the meeting of the housemaster can be deferred due to your dad's operation. But whatever it is, do not lose your temper. You must be fuming mad by now.

It's not entirely your fault and I've been through a similar situation but not to the extreme of suspension. Well, I got it through because I was a prefect and kinda escaped the stupid detention thing for something that I have to do but didn't because I didn't even know!!!

Let me see if I understand you.
You received a detention for not going to a rugby match???!!!
Are they insane??
What if you don't like rugby? (Please no offense to any rugby fans or players out there)

I am not going to be much help to you here because if it were me I would go to the principal or headmaster or what ever and tell that person to put Big blinkin' Brother back in his preverbal pocket and get a flippin' life!

I understand about school spirit and all that happy HS but this is just ludicrous. To punish a student for not attending a sporting event borders on Nazism. If your parents are upset with you try explaining to them why you didn’t want to attend the match.

Either way you have my sympathy, and I am darned glad I don’t live in Scotland.

Alice, Scotland is a great country in my opinion and I thought that was a harsh thing to say. I for one would hate to live in the states, although surely not everything is bad over there. :D

I am sorry if I offended anyone from or near Scotland.

It is not right to punish a student for missing a sporting event.
If this is how the rules are in that country concerning scolastic sporting attendance then I am still glad I don't live there.

Every country has it's drawbacks, there are many many in the states, but I don't think I have ever heard of a kid being punished for missing a school football game.

Once again I am sorry for offending any of you.

I'm not offended, I just thought it a bit harsh to say that, because I'm sure that's not a usual procedure in Scotland. I think it's sometimes just a stupid headmaster making stupid decisions like that. Or maybe a misunderstanding. Anyway, if it happened that way you said, your parents should do what Alice would have done and go kick the headmasters bum.

It sounds like a boarding school or something like that. They seem to operate with different rules to other schools. My school was pretty strict and had ridiculous rules (eg no carry bags on shoulders - even rucksacks had to be carried by hand).

The unfortunate position pupils are in is that teachers are not interested in their opinions about school rules. Rules are put in place to a) protect the pupils and b) to make teachers' jobs easier. It is unfortunate that you can get Snape-esq teachers who love power and abuse their positions.

At my school we had to grin and bear it. Perhaps if you have a teacher-pupil committee the silly rules can be brought up there. Don't know if it will work but at least it will bring them to the attention of the people who decide rules. Failing that, aybe get your mum to write to the governors explaining that mandaory attendence at sporting events is an infringement of your human rights, and that every human should be able to decide how to spend their free time (within the law naturally).

Holy cr*p! You get detention for not going to a rugby match, then suspended for not going to detention. Well at my school if you miss detention, you get suspended too! How many days did you get? It would be like 2 at my school.

I got suspended for 11 days in November for being with a person that had alcohol on them at our football game. Guilty by association, eh? And I REALLY didn't know they had it either. But if I hadn't been suspended, I never would have gotten into HP so maybe it was a blessing in disguise. In those 11 days I read all the HP books twice. I had nothing else to do.
