Do spells wear off?

Postby Mint » Friday 2 May 2003 4:55:18pm

I think they do (most of them...not like a death spell of course)

Like neveline*, he , after Hermoine immobilized him, ....didn't he told Dumbledore what happened?....I can't remember.

Anyway, what do you think?

PS: 12321, Neo :red evil: - yeeeah, Mint has a bad memory, nothing new  , you don't have to say it again and again and again  , just answer the question if you want.

most spells dont need to...theres a counter spell to restore them

but i think some spells would wear off eventually....i suppose it depends on how good you are at casting them in the first place...

that polyjuice potion thing definately wears off after an hour....

he didnt tell Dumbledore...dumbledore just seems to be aware of everything that happens....maybe the house elves tell dumbledore stuff

Spells most wear off, it depends in the difficult level, and how well you perform them; for example the cruciatus requires total focus in the target as long as the curse lasts, the same with the leviosa spell.

I'm thinking that maybe the cahrms wear off after a while, but thinkgs like curses need counter curses applied to get rid of them... jinx, not sure???

If you get frozen/pertified by the spell like Neville (thank you Hermione), do you need countercurse?

I would say yes, because in the first book, I think, neville got some cure put on his legs my malfoy, and hermoine needed to use the countercurse for it to put him right, and they told him that he needs to stand up for himself more often!

yeah that's right, i think charms do wear off, but curses don't, it's kinda like in the corny cartoon movies when an evil witch puts a curse on the pretty girl, it lasts forever, until somthing happens to end the curse, or maybe not

yeah, that's a good point, that's why Finitum Incatatem is for, no? to eliminate curses in action. And most charms most wear off the moment the wizard stops focusing in the target, and some with time.

Besides, what good would there be in a spell/curse that wears off after a while (especially when cast on yer enemies...) *grins evily* :devilish grin: Anyway, what you have all been saying is true: some spells, like those mentioned, will wear off, but curses are more likely to be those that need to be countered with another spell before wearing off. (Harry's bones didn't grow back by just sitting around doing nothing, now did they?) ;)

I don't think Lockheart cursed Harry, he did the spell wrong that's it. But some curses will wear off, I mean Draco would have laughed for ever if Snape didn't do something?
