Why JKR had Dumbledore trust Snape.

Postby DucksRMagical » Thursday 14 June 2007 7:45:28pm

This theory just came to me, and it is assuming Snape is evil (which I think he is).

My theory is that Dumbledore trusted Snape, and then Snape killed Dumbledore to show that Dumbledore may be a powerful and smart wizard, but he is still a normal wizard and makes mistakes. The reason for showing this is to show that Voldemort is also a powerful wizard, but will also make mistakes. Therefore, in the 7th book, someone Voldemort trusts will betray him. Maybe Pettigrew, but it could be another death eater.

that's a good theory, but i think that was just to show that everybody makes mistakes, even a powerful wizard like dd.

Lv only looks after himself, he doesn't trust anything! The only reason he has DE is to control them, because even he knows that he can't do the job alone.

Yeah I agree, LV doesn't trust anyone else. What Duckie said basically puts more power behind DD's words when he said that even he makes mistakes, but his mistakes have MUCH bigger consequences than other peoples - which backs up Snape being evil because he died because of his mistake of trusting Snape.. thats a pretty big consequence.

I think that LV trusted DD, Snape, and Peter. And possibly even Harry.

LV trusting DD?!?! :???:

Basically, I think that DD trusting Snape was a mistake, and having DD make a mistake shows that even great wizards make mistakes. So, LV is going to make a mistake too.

Is it too far off to assume that DD trusted Snape because Snape was trustworthy? DD makes mistakes and when he did, he was the first to stand and admit he had done so. His love for Harry and his desire to give him the most normal of a life that he can have by keeping information from him (i.e. the prophecy) He admitted that was his mistake. We don't often see him admit he makes mistakes because it doesn't often happen.

Perhaps DD's trust in Snape, that I still believe was not a mistake but I'll be seeking out the right thread to discuss that theory, is just foreshadowing another great wizard that will trust him to the greatest extent that he can, that Snape will also turn on that Great Wizard...?

And I'm talking about LV there. Just thought I'd blatantly point that out...

LV trusted Snape because he was the only one who believed him back in the orphanage.

Yes, but he will make another mistake when trying to kill Harry again.. which will allow Harry the chance to finally destroy him.

Yup, that's exactly what I meant, Run Away. Voldie will make a mistake that will lead to his downfall.

And Godric, could you please explain your reasoning as to why you think LV trusts DD?

LV doesn't trust anybody, ANYBODY! He'd never trust DD. In the orphanage, he didn't even want DD to go with him to get his school supplies, he wanted to do it himself.

DD trusts Snape because Snape proved to him that he was trust worthy, and I believe he is!!

Yup LV definately doesn't trust anybody. I guess one thing we should find out in the next book is why exactly it was that DD trusted Snape so much... and of course whether Snape really was trustworthy or not.

DD trusted Snape. DD was not a stupid man. If he trusted him, there was a reason he trusted him. Snape has always been able to keep his cover and be loyal to DD at the same time.

Snape always threatened to expel Harry from Hogwarts, the only place that Harry would have been safe, but whenever an oppurtunity arised that he would have been able to expel him, he defends him and gets him out of trouble... somewhat anyway.

In OOTP, when Snape is the last member of the Order left at Hogwarts, he could have easily left Harry to go to the ministry and not warned the Order without anyone ever knowing any the wiser because noone would have had to know that Harry had gone to him with his coded message about "Snuffles". But instead, he contacted the Order, sent them to rescue Harry and his friends and when Harry didn't return from the forest, he himself went in to look for him.

Also as a side note, He didn't give Umbridge the real truth serum she wanted to get information out of Harry when she was interrogating him but insisted he had given her all he had and it would take a month to brew more when she wanted to interrogate him again...

There were so many times that Snape could have easily killed Harry or placed him in more danger but he never did.

DD trusts Snape because DD knew that Snape had really repented, Snape is a good guy.
