Percy Crouch and Voldemort

Postby Evil Wizard Petting Zoo » Friday 14 May 2004 12:04:23am

Ok, while re-reading GoF, I was wondering....WHY out of all people, did Crouch pick Percy for his personal assistant? I don't think Crouch was "himself" when he chose Percy for the position. So...under Voldy's orders, Crouch made Percy his personal assistant. Why Percy? I'm sure there were plenty more people to choose from.

Crouch picked percy as his personal assistant before he was under Voldy's control, right from the Quidditch World cup.

i dont think it was of any particular significance, maybe since he was Arthur Weasley's son he wasnt given the bottom most post in the Ministry
and a dignified post

Percy was employed in Crouch's department and managed to impress himself upon Crouch by the amount of work he was doing. Crouch probably gradually more dependant on Percy as time went by.

If Crouch was already under the control of LV when he made Percy his personal Assistant, perhaps it was because LV knew that Percy would do anything to get ahead. He is ambitious enough to be rather akin to Slytherin. And as Arthur Weasley's son most people would over look his inexperience. :D

Besides realistically speaking it was a lot easier for JK to use Percy in this post since we already knew him, one less character to make up and name, and it made a good transition for Percy to become Fudge's Personal Assistant in book 5

I don't really think it's odd at all that Percy was Crouch's assistant. He was an exemplary student at Hogwarts, he was prefect, Head Boy, did very well on his OWLS and his NEWTS, was ambitious, and he had connections within the Ministry. I don't think a job as a personal assistant to a Head of a department is out of line for him. If he had immediately started out as the Minister of Magic's personal assistant, I would be suspicious. But the job he had was basically one that an intern or someone first wanting to get into politics would have in the Muggle world.
