Therefore my recommendation for Minister of Magic is...

Alastor Moody

He's a top-notch Auror with firsthand experience in catching DEs. He's a general, able to focus resources towards the most important goal facing the MoM. He's smart, tough, and will do what it takes to win.

I'm sorry Highsorcerer,
I have to disagree with you on this.
Firstly I do think that Arthur could and would make the hard decisions that are required during a time of war. Arthur is also aware of the risk and necessity of losses in times like this.

Also While Moody is a top-notch Auror with firsthand experience in catching DEs and that he is smart, tough, and will do what it takes to win.

However I do not find the real Moody a general, able to focus resources towards the most important goal facing the MoM. I find him to be a bit rough at the edges and well for lack of a better word moody.
The MoM during a time of war needs to be able to work sucessfully with other governments and other factions shuch as the Giants, the Goblins , Trolls, Centaurs etc...
Moody does not posess, in my opinion, the soft skill necessary to sucessfully acomplish this.
So I do feel that Arthur is the best choice as he seems to have all of the qualities required to fulfill the job to the best outcome of the wizarding race.

I think any man with the power and authority to raise seven kids to all be made of good stock (and Percy is, he was just deceived... it can happen to anyone) is a pretty strong, resourceful, good man and if it's between him and someone else to take over as Minister of Magic, I'm almost certainly with him.

All of those are qualities of a good general. Arthur has proven himself, I think, to be just that. He is tough (he has seven kids for cryin out loud, he'd have to be, or the Weasley family wouldn't be as loveable as they are), he's resourceful (they may be poor, but they're able to eat, have a comfortable house, even take in friends of their own children), powerful (there is no evidence that he's not powerful, but plenty that he is) and I think he is willing to take those losses (otherwise, he wouldn't be a major member of the Order of the Phoenix. He knew what he was getting into).

On top of all that, he's respected by his peers (well, those who aren't evil anyway). When he's on his way to his office, he's "helloed" by several people. He takes an interest in everyone, no matter how menial their jobs are, and that's a good quality in a leader.

I think Moody would be put over the edge if he became Minister of Magic. He's already paranoid. Could you imagine what he'd be like if he had such a high-profile job???

Anyone have any ideas about who chooses the MoM? The Wizengamot perhaps or an election?

I have no idea... I got the feeling in book 4 that it was more of a committee appointed thing, rather than an election, but I don't have any evidence to back that up, other than just the way I understood it...

I don't know much about British politics... with other ministers of (fill in the blank), is it like the Queen or the Prime Minister appoints them (kinda like our cabinet members in the US) or is it more like a general election (like our Congress and House of Representatives)...

I think all those important Wizarding clubs (Wizengamot, Confederation of Wizards, etc.) and maybe upper ministry people will have a vote in it. I think the new MoM is Arthur or some person we haven't met yet. Like a head of some department already in the MoM

Hi

It's just that Arthur doesn't seem like he will be able to lead a Wizarding community against LV and the Death Eaters.

O.k Authur might have a chance but I think that it would be more likely that it will be an auror who has DD support.

If Arthur bacame MOM, well he would have a lot more money right, I don't think the Weasleys would suddenlt become rich, it'd just be too wierd.

In a time of unrest you need someone with lots of experience in combat type of thing. While misuse of muggle artifacts is cool....i don't know if it cuts it.

Thats why I think it will be an auror, not moody cos he is way too paranoid and isn't respected as much.

Here's an Idea

Postby Lone_Buck » Friday 9 April 2004 2:49:34pm

Could it be Tonks. I recall JKR saying that Tonks will play a bigger role in the upcoming books. You wouldn't have to worry about protecting her with some sort of guard system, because she can change her appearance.

If Author does become MoM he will have an edge over any other canidates, becuase he is so well-versed in Muggle-ness. He would know how to handle the muggle press

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait... lemme get this straight... you don't think Arthur has it in him to be Minister of Magic, but you do think Tonks would be a good candidate? I mean, I'm for girl-power and all that, but no way in heck Tonks is more talented than Arthur.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of you guys who are saying Arthur doesn't have enough of an authoritative nature to be Minister of Magic in these times aren't living on your own with a family of more than one child and a low income. The man has got authority.

I wonder if Dumbledore will be considered. Remember a lot of people wanted him last time instead of Fudge. But Dumbledore wouldn't take the job, he didn't last time. Or he may feel that everyone needs his leadership.

I'm starting to lean away from Arthur now. He is an excellent wizard and well-liked, but looking at it from a magical point of view, he isn't that well known and many people might not think the head of an obscure almost unknown part of the MoM should become Minister.

DD would never tyake the position. His place is at Hogwarts.

I do believe that DD's recommendation will hold more weight than just about any other consideration.
I also believe that he would choose Arthur for all of the reason that both Athena and I have outlined in this thread.

Tonks
Sorry but that was kind of funny.

No prob

Postby Lone_Buck » Saturday 10 April 2004 4:16:02am

Hakuna Matata, I just know that JKR said Tonks would play a bigger role in the future books, I'm just struggling to guess what it is. Maybe she had something with Sirius towards the end. Maybe she's related to a main character, and will start to show that.

You know who would be good for the job that Dumbledore holds in High esteem, McGonagall. Maybe she will give up teaching. I know, the more i talk the more unlikely they seem, odds are that i say something really stupid five lines down from here.
