Yeah, I think it's pretty impossible to tell who the HBP is without any more information. But who knows? Maybe someone will figure it out completely. So far, everyone's speculations were really good. Anyways, GG is a good candidate for HBP, since there's the fact that the part in Chamber that plays out in HBP, and Harry found out a lot about GG in Chamber. But Harry also "finds out" other things, like he does in every book.

i think it's dean thomas...i thought he was pure muggle-blood until i saw on HP lexicon the comment JKR made about his father. and that whole lineage not mentioned in the previous 5 books but told about just seems tempting :-)

I don't think it's Dean. JK says that she wanted to write more about him but then didn't really find the right place for it and introduced Neville more instead. If he were the HBP, wouldn't she keep the information about him secret and try not to attract our attention to him?

In that interview (Edinburgh) JKR said about Voldy:

Q: Has Voldemort or Tom Riddle ever cared for or loved anyone?

Now, that's a cracking question to end with -- very good. No, never. [Laugher]. If he had, he couldn't possibly be what he is. You will find out a lot more about that. It is a good question, because it leads us rather neatly to Half Blood Prince, although I repeat for the millionth time that Voldemort is not the half blood prince, which is what a lot of people thought. He is definitely, definitely not.

He's never loved anyone? How sad. But how does it lead ot the Half Blood Prince, I wonder? Does he have something to do with love? Now I think that he may be someone from the past, possibly from Voldy's past? JKR said once that we'll get to know more about him, so the HBP may be someone related to him. :-?

I think the question leads to the book "The Half Blood Prince", not to the prince himself. At least this is the way I understand it.
About love...didn't DD say that love is the mighty weapon which Harry possesses and which LV underestimates?

Although whether that paragraph describes the HBP or somebody else, it could be the new DADA teacher

Nobby, I don't understand what you mean...what I meant was that the quote "the question leads us rather neatly to Half Blood Prince" could mean that whether or not Voldy ever cared for anyone is a major theme of "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince".

Mass confusion!...

Okay, I got it now.

I'm just going to throw this out in the open, but what about Peter Pettigrew? We hardly know anything about him, so It's likely in that aspect. And maybe LV caring for someone leads us to the book, but has nothing to do with Pettigrew at all.

Am I making sense? :???:

Perfectly! :)

Hm...a treacherous rat as a Prince? Sounds strange...But why not? It's just that I have a feeling that the HBP is on the good side.

This just hit me! But I'm sure 24 hours later I'll think its dumb. I think the HBP is Voldemort's half brother. Work with me....Riddle's mom is the one with Slytherin blood in her Riddle's dad was just a jerk, not a good combination. Well maybe Riddle's mom had another kid before Tom and in this book he rejoins his little bro for world domination. No time to think of anything else, gotta prepare for hurricane Ivan.
