That's right Holly; but if Snape were still working for Voldemort I'm not sure he would have saved Harry.

I believe that if you do not pay the debt you become a ghost.

tThat makes sense Neo...

Like the debt is a powerful enough reason to stay lingering after death! I like it! :D

Yeah, because Jo said that part of ecoming a ghost was not being happr (like Myrtle), but things like having a debt can be too a way to become a ghost.

But I think that wether or not Snape was working for Voldie, he would have felt obligated to save Harry... just like wormtail will...

Voldemort has a debt with Peter; and I don't think Voldemort will risk his life to save Peter if there is a situation like it.

hehe, maybe you HAVE to repay a dept! It could be that the bond someone created by saving your life makes it impossible for you to act other than trying to save him, whether you want it or not. After all, it's said that you cannot kill anybody who saved your life. And isn't refusing to save one's life equivalent to killing?

i would say that voldemort would not be alive and full strength without all the aid peter gave him not to mention the actual spell casting and hand.....

I don't know... I think that these debts also have something to do with perception, and gratitude...

ie, though Snape hated it, he acknowledges that James saved his life, and Wormtail certainly knew that was it not for Harry's pity, then he woudl be dead too, and if grateful for that... whereas Voldie feels none of that... Peters hand was just a means to an end, he's not really grateful for it, but woudl rather feel that he deserved it...

Okay, that really doesn't describe what I'm thinking very well... but I can't think of a better way to put it just yet???

:(

If you were forced to pay the debt then Peter would have helped Harry when he duel with Voldemort, no?

I dont' really think that they are forced as such to pay the debt.. more like an obligation brought about by compassion/gratitude?

Yeah, but I think that the magical connection is brought about by the feeling... ie, harry's protection is brought about by his mothers feelings of love and her sacrifice for him... so I think that the gratitude/compassion brings about this feeling of oweing a debt to the other person!

Make sense?

Yeah, itmakes; but I'm not sure.

Still I think that it is very weird that if Peter is going to pay the debt to Harry, he didn0t help him in the end of GoF.

I think that he wont' necessarily be hepling Harry by doing things like turning imself in, or stuff like fighting on his side, but more like a time will come where he has to choose between doing what Voldie orders, which will result in Harry's death, and choosing to go against Voldie, and thus save Harry...>?
