I've just re-read the 5th book and when Snape tells Harry he is to take Occlumency lessons, he calls Sirius a coward and Sirius reacts in the exact way. What do you think that entails?

Well, all these theories about why he hates being caled a coward in the first place seem totally possible, but I think the fact that he got so angry is because Harry himself was saying it. If the theory that Snape is good after all, the tremendous pressure of having to kill dd and then have the person he saved, the person that this is all about, the person he claims to "hate" so much and who hates him so much when underneath he is on the right side call him a coward...

Pressssssssssure :-) Poor Snape.

I suppose we'll all be gobsmacked if he turns out to be ultimately evil :D

I still think Snape's going to help Harry. He's proven his loyalty to Voldemort by killing Dumbledore, and so perhaps will be privy to more information, such as where the other horcruxes are. Dumbledore is the type of person to sacrifice his life for the greater good and so I think this was all part of the plan.

When Hagrid overheard Dumbledore and Snape arguing, Snape said that perhaps he didn't want to do it anymore and Dumbledore was taking too much for granted. Dumbledore told Snape in reply that he'd promised to do it and that was all there was to it. They could easily have been talking about Snape's unbreakable vow to Narcissa Malfoy.

I think it's because James tormented him so much in school. He was made fun of by a Potter before, and he hates to hear Harry continue the tradition. Snape needs some anger management.                                     :D :-)

Simple Male ego, if you think you are powerful and will not be stopped by nobody wont you get ticked off if u are called a coward. I also think it has to do with the bullying he recieved.

Not meaning to nitpick here, but it's a site for Potterheads, and Ron says git at least 5-6 times a book...

You are still in elementary school, Fawkes.

I never really thought of it as a swear word, either. But I'm from the US, so it's not used a whole lot where I live.
