My first impression of the "handgrip" was that it was that something is being shared, not transfered. It looks to me like they are creating some sort of bond (perhaps similar to the bond Lily created) rather than one person giving up something for someone else. But that's just the impression that I got. Can't really say for sure why.

I also think it's Harry's hand and Dumbledore's hand.

Like Thestral has already said, I think that the ring has something to do with the identity of the Half-Blood prince.

I've had a look at the ring again and I think there is a letter M there, or maybe 2 letters, RA. Hmmmm :???:

i agree with you. i'm convinced it will all come down to some sort of ancient magic. and another magical bond would be just dandy

it's always voldemort's oversight, he underestimates it. so when he least expects, WHAM BANG and he'll be dead. the wizards will party and we'll be happy-and then sad cos there'll be no more HP books :-(

Yeah...I think DD is like transferring some of his magic into Harry to help him repel Voldemort or something...

But I think it's a really good cover...It's a bummer they purposley took off the blurb(well I think it's a blurb)...LOL!!!

normally the blurb at the back of HP books never really give away much, they're like 'HP returns to hogwarts for his 6th year at hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry! there's highjinxs a plenty, in between quidditch, zonkos and hogmeades, harry and his friends will have lots of adventures! hogwarts is a castle, harry is a wizard, he has 2 friends and now i am going to drop a very tiny hint to allude to the fact that harry might become more than just friends with a girl'.

they kinda state the obvious with like one tiny hint at which you're going, 'duh! really?!'. although that would be a good thing cos imagine, you wait 2 years for the bloody book, and sitting in the car, turn it over to the back and read 'HP returns for his 6th year at hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry! dumbledore dies, hermione and ron finally get jiggy with it, and harry goes insane with the loss of sirius and creates his own evil death sect!'

hmm can't really remember what my original point was....ahhh something about how we won't miss much cos they never give anything away.

I don't think he'll underestimate it again. It was his biggest mistake, it led to his downfall, and he's not so stupid to do the same mistake twice. He's already said so in the graveyard scene after his 'rebirth'. That's why he wanted to have Harry's blood in particular, he knew that it would make Harry's protection useless. He's definitely learned his lesson. Well, at least he himself says so, but I believe him. After all, wouldn't the solution be a bit too easy? We've had that as an explanation for his first defeat, use it again would, in my opinion, be below JKR.

And it wouldn't really do to have DD sacrificing himself for Harry either. We want something new and exciting.

Perhaps Dumbledore could sacrifice himself and his favourite pair of woolen socks. Perhaps red ones. Red with yellow stripes?

Gotta calm myself down over here. That's almost too exciting and new.

LOL

"There are things worse than death, Tom. You can kill me, but you cannot destroy me"
"I know. That's why I'm going to destroy your socks first!"
"Nooooooooooooo...."
"Wormtail? Get me my scissors! Muhahahahaha"

Or maybe Dumbledore's socks are super enchanted karate socks that finish Voldemort off once he tries to touch them... and when everyone wonders how that could happen, Dumbledore remembers they where made by James Potter the day Harry was born, to calm himself down, and the prophecy wasn't about Harry in the first place. They're all so happy they decide to have a party, and on the cover you can see Harry and Dumbledore preparing the pumpkin bowl. The handshake is part of the truth or dare game that follows. In the future, Draco will play Juliet in the new Hogwarts Drama Club, Harry will marry Ron and live happily ever after, Hermione will try to marry Ginny, but Ginny dies during the ceremony because she misunderstood the Muggle tradition to hide the bride's face with a veil. Snape dies heroically, saving Trevor from Dumbledore's left karate sock that's trying to take over world domination.

So, not too unexpected, please!

Sorry for being OT, I just couldn't help myself.
