Why not Lupin?

Postby carsten » Friday 23 April 2004 3:27:00pm

Why not Lupin? He was there, did a good job, survived in proper health, which is already very good. It would be a nice move, too, because it would help with the necessary reconciliation between wizards and what they look down to as lower races.

I think Lupin decided to leave on his own when he realized he was a danger to others. And I think if he were to return, it would be kind of a setback in the story... like, we've already had a story based around Lupin being at Hogwarts, and to try to bring him back would be, I don't know, stagnant (sp?).

Who could return...? Indeed...

Hagrid would be so cool... having him studying along the 3rd year students (Dennis Creevey, for instance)... Do we know which house did he belong to?

I don't think it was ever stated but I have always thought of Hagrid as a gryffindor. He seems to really favor (no that's not the right word) he roots for Gryffindor the most, you know at quidditch games and at the interhouse championship.
If he were to come back to become a fully qualified wizard he would most likely receive private lessons seeing as he himself is a teacher in the school.

It's not mentioned for certain in the books, only that Hagrid does side with Gryffindor most... but he was in Gryffindor. J.K. Rowling has said so in a chat or interview or something a long time ago...

I think that Fleur or Krum, as triwizard contestants, would both be thought highly capable DADA teachers.

they would, but I think, like the past five DADA teachers, books 6 and 7 will have someone never mentioned before, too

Fleur or Krum could be considered qualified for various teaching positions. We have had more than one teaching position open up, Hagrid became a new teacher when Lupin took over DADA.

yes... just a reminder, though... Lupin didn't get shifted from Magical Creatures to DADA... the former Magical Creatures teacher retired to enjoy his remaining limbs, or something like that

Professor Kettleburn, if i remember correctly :-)

i dont think Lupin will return. it wasnt so much a case of him being fired as he himself resigning for the sake of safety of the students, and he wont change his mind.and i believe he is right.a werewolf among school-kids is still a big risk. we overlooked that as he was so cool and lovable and he gave so much fun to PoA but i still shudder to think what would have happened if he had bitten Harry or the others that fateful night.

and despite DD getting his way in the future books, many parents would still have problems with him teaching their kids

Lupin's Return?

You are probably right. What brought the idea to my mind was the overall change in society: Wizards, giants, ... and maybe werewolves standing close together against the evil forces.

Even though some folks will look at giants, or goblins, or elves with a new respect when wizards have to band together with other species, I think most will keep them at a distance. I mean, even in the Order, one of our favorite people (Molly) let it be known that she didn't like having to work alongside Mundungus, so it's not so outlandish to believe that there will be people who will want to keep the different species away, and only tolorate them because they have to.

I find it highly doubtful that any new alliances between wizard kind and any other species will have much more to them than diplomacy, and that the general public will only tolorate species they've grown up hating.

Anyway, even with the new alliances, some animals/species are dangers. They shouldn't be shunned because of it (Lupin should be able to get a job working at several different places... a school full of wizard children is just not one of them). Lupin and Dumbledore realize this, so I don't think there's any chance of Lupin coming back.

What about Moody. We spent an entire year with a fake Moody. Maybe a year with the real Moody is store :P

 ya know, if Rowling were to actually send most of these people back to Hogwarts that we're dreaming up she'd send (Lupin, Hagrid, Moody) I'd be disappointed in her, because it would just seem so blah. If she sent Fred and George back, at least that would be inserting some more of their wit in the books, which will be sorely missed if they really don't return.

I got it... Lockheart. After he accidently erased his own memory, he forgot everything he knew and has to return as a first year!
