I just thought something. Do you remeber that, before Hogwarts, Harry used to do magic when he was in a bad situation (the boa, the hair growth, ... ). Could Petunia live to see Dudley in great danger, or someone else, and so she manages to do some sort of spell?

maybe, but i'm sure that she's been in a situation in her life before where she would feel strongly enough about something to inadvertently do some magic to change it.
i dont think that it would have taken this long to come out.

LOL....
Now, seriously... There is much more to know about Petunia. Askaban?? She wouldn't even remember they had their own prision, if she hadn't any contact with some wizard... let's say... for instance, DD...

*sigh* look, Harry only did magic when under EXTREME stress... If magic is a dormant (not prominent) trait in Petunia, it wouldn't have come up every little time she got upset. Besides, Petunia is very into not showing too much emotion at all, so she would have buried the little bit of magic that might be in her a long time ago.

According to J.K. Rowling, someone unexpected will do magic... so it seems to be kind of pointless saying "they would have done magic when......" every time, doesn't it?

i guess i just find it difficult to see that she would start to do magic so late in life.
unless she has done it before but did not want to admit to it, and for some reason now she feels that there is good enough reason to put her feeling aside about magic aside and face up to the fact that she's a witch...

I think it is Mark Evans. He can't be a wizard now, otherwise the ministry would have known - and as we learned during the hearing, Harry was the only wizard in town. On the other side, there must be a connection between Mark and Lily, so I wouldn't be surprised if he did magic one day.

That's certainly another possibility.

But I do think that Mark will manage to do magic earlier in his life. I mean, JKR seems to introduce every character she mentions. If Mark will have a major role in the plot, he will certainly belong to the wizarding world, and therefore be a wizard...

I still think it is Petunia.

my opinion is that Petunia will be the magical squib, as i believe her parents (or just parent) were squibs, making Lily the rare witch but coming from a long line of undocumented squibs (although with magical blood) making her to appear as a muggle-born. So perhaps Petunia has powers too, and they just took longer to show.

The way the Petunia says that her parents were so proud to have a witch in the family has always made me think there was something more to it. It almost seems like her parents knew of the existence of witches and wizards before Lily went to Hogwarts.

I must have missed the Mark Evans reference, but I do like the suggestions that he will appear again. JK mentions people and they generally turn up in a later book - Sirius is heard of in PS and appears in PoA, the Lovegoods are mentioned in GoF (they live near the Weasleys) and Loony turns up in OotP.

By this rationale, Mark Evans could appear in 6/7, as could Aberforth. Aberforth has been mentioned in 2 books now (4 and 5 I think), so he must make his appearance in 6.

I completely overstepped this two references... where can I find them?

Sirius is mentioned in the Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone, when Hagrid mentions that he used Sirius's moterbike to deliver baby Harry to Privet Drive.

The Lovegoods are mentioned in Goblet of Fire when the Weasleys and the Diggorys are about to catch the portkey. Arthur and Amos are talking about if they should expect anyone else, and I think they say the Lovegoods couldn't get tickets.
