Violet you make it sound as if CoS is a really awful book that you dont like reading. Although admittedly I, like many others, prefer the other four in the series, I still really enjoy re-reading it and listening to the audio tape, and its still definitely one of my favourite books. i do agree with you though that it feels dis-jointed from the rest of the series, but i think when we have read books 6 and 7 it will become more relevant to the ongoing plot of the series.

In all honestly, I'm really not a big fan of COS. It doesn't quite seem to join in well withthe other books in my opinion, and is the one that I like to read the least... I think that if I read Cos first, before PS (who knows why, but anyways) then I wouldnt' have continued to read the series...

But hey, that's just me!!! :D

Hrmm, I'm kinda picking up on a thread here!!!

I though about it for a while, and I'm not really sure why I dont' like it much though.. or at elast it's definately my least favourite!!! I know that some dont' like the idea that the school is suspecting Harry, but I don't think that's what makes me kinda dislike the bok... I thought that part was really cool!

It kinda just seemed.. darkish... but not like OOTP was dark (acc to JK... personally, I jsut think thta Harry was very angry!!! ;) ) Kind of that the whole school was in danger.. and the possibility of it shutting down.. and probably the most disturbing was the similarities between Harry and Voldie... Hrmmmmmmmmmmmm... :???:

yeah i know what u mean. while i suppose in harry's situation it might be a bit of a worry that you hold many similar qualities as voldermort, i just got bored of him always questioning if he belonged in slytherin or whatever.
I also dont particularily like the way that in most of the books (not just CoS) the way that the school seems to hate harry. Why dont they pick up on the fact that harry has never actually done anything wrong, and whenever they have disliked him they've been wrong about it (which has happened 5years running!) bunch of idiots some of the people in the school

The other students are a bit dumb about that arent they. I mean, how many times has he defeated LV for them. You'd think they'd figure out that they owe him alot and should be more thankful

See...I find this really funny because I love CoS. It is one of my favorites. And I must say I did read it first before reading PS...I bought the 2nd book to read while at summer camp and didn't know it was the 2nd book in a series because the earlier editions didn't have Year 3 or whatever on the binding...I read it and loved it and then went on to buy the first one and found that one boring compared to the second one...oh well...it might just be a favorite of mine because i read it first...

Though CoS isn't my favourite book in the series, I do think it has a magnificent ending, where everything just tied up so nicely and everything turned out quite well for all parties concerned. That said, I can definitely see how the ending could give clues for the later books. Aside from what has already been mentioned, I can think of only one more thing, tha being the fact that Harry pulled Gryffindor's sword from the sorting hat while fighting the Basilisk. Though this could mean nothing, quite a few people have used it as evidence for Harry being the Heir of Gryffindor. I used to suport the theory, but with all the new information from OotP, it seems less plausible. However, I could definitely see the Heir issue playing into later books.

Oh, and I've thought od something else along the same lines. I remember seeing an article on the reading that JK did at The Royal Albert Hall and there being something about one of the chapters in OotP being the basis for the events of Book 6. Does anyone else remember reading/hearing this?
