But how do you explain then, that the Aurors were given the right to kill if they couldn't capture a Death Eater? They could even use the unforgiveable curses on them, so why bother to put them in jail, when there's that veil available.

(On a personal note, I'm against death penalty.)

I think Neville will come into greater play. He and Harry have a lot in common. Plus, Neville is really coming into his own. He appears to have some expertise in herbology, the emphasis on his new plant, the fact that Lestrange is still at large (and this has definitely spurred Neville to new heights), and the fact that McGonagall told him that he could be quite good if he just had confidence...

I think we will see more on the veil and deathchamber. It seems that the MoM was using this room for research. Of course, they may have used criminals to experiment on...who knows? The Ministry is fallible, we now know, and it wouldn't be the first time governments have been corrupted or done unethical things in the name of research.
