Mark Evans Is....

a mistake. JKR answered on her site, and Mark Evans was just a name that she used, off the top of her head. He serves no significance to the books.

Besides she made it clear that Pertunia Dursley (Evans) was the only living relative Harry had.

Ah I hate to see you all so disappointed by this, but I have pointed out in previous posts that Evans is quite a common surname. I do know that JK's books are littered with clues about the way the story is going to go but I guess this one was just a dead end.

Oh cr*p. It would have been sooo perfect. Not hardly surprising, we theory-makers look for such clues with such sucritiny that we pick up on the most innocent of names or actions. I, personally over analize everything. In fact I have a theory about the bricks you tap to get into Diagon alley hold the secret to the length of the coming books!!!! A little far-fetched, but thats my job!!

Yeah... I'm a little disappointed, too... there were just so many cool possibilities...

I still say, though, that the mistake wasn't ours... after all, while Evans may be a common surname in real life, in the context of her story, it would make more since to strictly avoid that surname unless there was a meaning behind it... Potter's a common surname, but she wouldn't dream of having a non-important character with that last name, because the first thing we'd all think would be "?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????!!!!!!!! THERE'S ANOTHER POTTER????!!!!!??????!!!!!"

JK did say in that interview that Mark's second name could easily been Smith, Jones, Thomas, Black or Brown. All of those are common surnames though the last three would have got us all theorising as well

I think that in the next book just to amuse us a little, she will do something with Mark Evans. Nothing big, just have harry talk to him, and ask if he know aunt petunia. NOthing that's gonna end up changing the plot though.

this seems like a very stupid question but who is Mark Evans??? I've read all the books no less than 5 times but I don't know who he is! what book is he in and to what refrence??? sorry for being stupid.
