It's great to see that the theories section has become so popular recently, however people have noticed that when they see the title to a thread they attempt to post a response only to find that the topic has drifted so far that it doesnt even seem to be about it anymore.
I think we're all fairly guilty of it, so should really try and stay more on topic in future.
But please continue to post, there have been some really great ideas out there recently!

I make your words my words...

Just wanted to add that getting off topic is absolutely normal (I'd say it's even more normal to drift than to keep sticked to the title...). However, as Violet said, it's not so good when you find a topic you would want to reply just to find out people in there are just discussing something very different and without anything related to the topic's title.

I'd say you could do the following: imagine you are reading a theory (for instance 'Dudley's Dementor'), and suddenly you remember something that would fit in there but is not quite connected with the title... Why not start a new topic, talking about what you read and what you remembered, and leave a hyperlink* in the 'Dudleys' Dementor' thread? It would prevent getting off topic, and we could still talk about different issues.

Very good idea Jotomicron! I think that way we'll keep things running smoothly in here, and everyone can still keep the ideas flowing!

Just thought I would use this sticky to highlight that JKR has conducted a new interview which gives light to many of the Theories contained within this folder.

See the JKR folder for more info:

Yes after all this is a Harry Potter forum and shouldnt be used for other things. If you reply to a topic dont wander about with other theories inside that post

i totally agree and i think people should just make one subject for posting at a time that focus on one specific topic

I totally agree too! I'm still a newbie and at first I was getting so lost becuse I'd start reading some posts but when I went to reply (you guys may have been a few pages ahead of where I came in or whatever) I'm suddenly completely off topic!
