Hmmmmm . . . Those are pretty good . . . I wonder if fire would stop them something. Or water . . . "'Help meeeeee! I'm melting . . . !" ^^

(Grrr . . . Can't edit your post on this site) They probably don't think that extensively. Or they wouldn't try and suck Potter's soul out . . .

Shadows_With made a good point about the dementors' intelligence. They can't seem to lean to speak our language and they seem to follow pure instinct. I'm sure the soul of a lonesome little boy would be quite delicious, but when the most powerful wizard in the world (DD) is protecting the boy, attacking him may not be the smartest thing to do.

The Dementors in PoA do not seem to comprehend this. They seem to be instinctual creatures who must do what they are told.

Perhaps when somebodys soul gets sucked out, the person eventually becomes a dementor. I think that if a Patronus really wanted to, it could kill a dementor. However, the priority of a patronus is to protect whomever summoned it, so I doubt the patronus would kill anything unless absoloutly neccisarry. It would rather drive the threat away than risk being destroyed itself.

Just my two cents.

.......Oh yeah, and in the movie of PoA, surely I'm not the only one who hated the fact that not only could dementors fly around, but they were faster than a Nimbus 2000.

If they dwell on sucking the happiness out of people, maybe a person with an already very cold soul could kill them?

^^^^^^^^^^

I suggested something similar in the Voldermort thread. Perhaps a really evil soul would be like poison for a Dementor. Remember though, that the most evil prisoners of Azkaban get their souls sucked out, so the person would have to be worse than the very worst of Death Eaters. Or perhaps by that stage, the dementors guarding Azkaban have built up a resistance.

Nightcrawler, I agree with you about the Dementors in the POA movie, but then again I thought that the movie overall was just dreadful!

As to them being killed by a patronis I believe that is possible. When Harry's Patronis attacked the two dementors in the alley between Magnolia and Wisteria Walk the Stag patronis actually used it's antlers to lift one of the dementors under the ribs and throw it.
This indicates to me that they can indeed be killed or at the very least harmed. They have coporial bodies that can be damaged, do enough damage and they die.
