Prefect question

Not a theory but I wasnt sure where to post it.
If you become a prefect in 5th year do you stay a prefect in 6th year? Are new prefects picked in 6th year?

Percy was a prefect his 5th and 6th years, i'm pretty sure. It's just that the way they wrote book 5, it makes you believe that ron and hermione were the only prefects. Come to think of it, Ron and Hermione are the first new prefects introduced since book one, if my memory serves me correctly.

I'm sure this question was posted before but I think that Hogwarts has a system of junior and senior prefects. Those who were picked as prefects in the 5th year become seniors in the 6th year, with new prefects picked to replace the ones that have left school
