Does it? I can't begin to tell you how many text books I've come across that were wrong at least once.

I know I was being sarcastic! Just because something is in a text book doesn't necessarily it's true, i think it's Hermione who says that there have been revised editions. Maybe they always chose to leave that out because it would be an obvious entrance into Hogwarts, and they dont' want anyone to try it.

I don't know, I still go back to the interview with Rowling on the CoS dvd where she says that she uses Hermione and Dumbledore to get facts out there that would otherwise be difficult to establish... So I don't think she'd make a switch like that and have Hermione be wrong about something she's learned about in a book. Now, books do leave out certain information (like the house elves) but omitting it is a little different than lying about it.
