I could be completely wrong ( don't have my copy of OotP at uni). At one of Harry's occlumency lessons, Snape sees Harry's vision of Voldemort talking to one of the DE's ( not sure which) about why Bode would have resisted the imperious curse and tried not to take the prophecy. Snape asks why harry is seeing what voldemort is sayng to the DE's when he should have learnt to block it. Harry replies, no thats your job isn't it. Am sure that Snape replies yes- hence confirming his job for the order. Could somebody check up and find out please.

you are right, he does say that.
i must say that agreeing to Harry isnt absolute confirmation of his job but still, it is one more solid point in favour of the theory of him being a spy

Somehow I can't believe that, it's way too obvious. Too easy for JKR.

Yes, that makes me wonder too. There are all possible allusions to his being a spy, but I still slightly doubt it. But if he isn't a spy, what possibly can he be doing? Spying is the easiest explanation, there's also his friendship with Lucius (Malfoy must think him a DE) and some other things to prove it. But still... :???: I just can't believe that he would be doing this, possibly killing or torturing someone and Dumbledore would be okay with it, for me it's contradictory (and I think it was mentioned in the books that Dumbledore had spies, so he used to have and maybe still has more than one). Dumbledore is something like the embodiment of goodness and light.

I still say that Snape turned against Voldy and came to Dumbledore when he heard about what Voldy was planning on doing to James and Lily. I think it all fits together.

James saved Snape's life, and Snape was trying to pay the debt (since it didn't work, he saved Harry's life in P/SS and was finally free of that burden, really)

Snape turned against Voldy before James and Lily died.

Somebody told Dumbledore that James, Lily and Harry were in danger.

Everyone who is worried about Dumbledore having spies and those spies possibly doing bad things... well, it happens in all wars that there are spies, and the benefits outweigh the problems. I don't think Dumbledore would condone killing or torturing by any means, but if you look at things from his perspective, if he doesn't have a spy in there, the entire world is at jeopardy (muggles and wizards alike), so I would imagine he told Snape something like "Get out of doing it if you can," but he's not a naive man, and he knows that sacrifices have to be made for the greater good.
